Privateers Receive Two Skyline Weekly Honors

THROGGS NECK, NY – For the third straight time, Nick Uzakewicz (Hauppauge, NY) of the Maritime College men's lacrosse team has been chosen as the Skyline Conference Offensive Player of the Week.  He tallied a combined 21 points in the Privateers' home wins over St. Joseph's LI and Mount St. Vincent.  In addition, Thomas McCarvill (Port Washington, NY) received his third Skyline Rookie of the Week award this season after scoring 11 goals in the two games.

Uzakewicz finished with three goals and seven assists, one shy of matching the single-game school record, against St. Joseph's LI on Tuesday night.  It was the third time this season that he handed out at least seven assists.  Uzakewicz then scored six times and distributed five assists in Saturday's victory against Mount St. Vincent on Saturday.  He now has 50 assists on the season, a new program record.  Uzakewicz also ranks third nationally in assists per game.

McCarvill had a career-high seven goals in the victory over St. Joseph's LI.  He finished with eight shots on goal in the contest, seven of which found the back of the net.  McCarvill also distributed two assists, giving him nine points in the win.  Then on Saturday against Mount St. Vincent, he scored four times while adding two ground balls and a caused turnover.

This is the second consecutive week in which Maritime has earned a pair of weekly awards.  Last week, Brody Smith (Rehoboth Beach, DE) was honored as the Skyline Defensive Player of the Week alongside Uzakewicz.  Ryan Hannaford (Bayport, NY) was previously selected as the Skyline Offensive Player of the Week on Feb. 23, while McCarvill has now received three Skyline Rookie of the Week nods (Feb. 23, March 16).

The Privateers (7-7, 5-0 Skyline), who have clinched a first-round bye in next week's Skyline Tournament, have two games remaining in the regular season, both on the road.  Maritime visits defending champion Farmingdale (11-3, 4-1 Skyline) at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.  The Privateers will wrap up the No. 1 seed and homefield advantage with a victory over the Rams.
