Pair of Privateers Recognized By USILA

THROGGS NECK, NY – The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Coaches Association (USILA) has announced its Division III Team of the Week for April 6-12, and two members of the Maritime College men's lacrosse team were among the 10 selections.  Both Brody Smith (Rehoboth Beach, DE) and Nick Uzakewicz (Hauppauge, NY) were honored for their efforts in the Privateers' wins over Mount St. Mary and Merchant Marine.

Smith, who was also named Skyline Conference Defensive Player of the Week, had eight ground balls and 10 caused turnovers in the two games.  Against Mount St. Mary on April 8, be picked up five ground balls and recorded a season-high six caused turnovers while also scoring his first goal of the season.  Smith then tallied three ground balls and four caused turnovers in the victory at Merchant Marine on April 11.  In addition, he held the Mariners' top scorer to just one goal in the contest.

Uzakewicz, the Skyline Offensive Player of the Week, broke his own single-game program record with eight assists against Merchant Marine.  He also scored once and had a hand in nine of Maritime's 13 goals in the victory.  In the win over Mount St. Mary, Uzakewicz handed out six assists and added a goal.  Across the two games, he recorded 16 points on two goals and 14 assists.  Uzakewicz currently ranks third nationally with 3.75 assists per game.

On Saturday, the Privateers (6-7, 4-0 Skyline) welcome Mount St. Vincent (6-7, 3-1 Skyline) to Reinhart Field at 1 p.m. for their final home game of the regular season.  With a win, Maritime will be guaranteed a top-three seed and first-round bye in the Skyline Tournament.
