THROGGS NECK, NY – Two members of the Maritime College men's lacrosse team have been honored by the Skyline Conference for their efforts in the Privateers' wins over Mount St. Mary and Merchant Marine last week. Sophomore
Nick Uzakewicz (Hauppauge, NY) earned his second straight Skyline Offensive Player of the Week nod, while junior
Brody Smith (Rehoboth Beach, DE) was named Skyline Defensive Player of the Week.
Uzakewicz handed out a combined 14 assists in the two games. He distributed six assists and added a goal against Mount St. Mary on Wednesday, then set a single-game program record with eight assists in the victory at Merchant Marine on Saturday. Uzakewicz also scored a goal and picked up two ground balls in the win. For the season, he has 38 assists, and his 3.45 assists per outing lead the league by a wide margin while ranking among the top 15 nationally.
Smith, meanwhile, tallied eight ground balls and caused 10 turnovers across the two contests. Against Mount St. Mary, he picked up five ground balls and scored his first goal of the season. Smith also had a season-high six caused turnovers in the victory. He followed up that effort with three ground balls and four caused turnovers at Merchant Marine.
This is Smith's first career Skyline weekly honor, and he becomes the fourth different Maritime player to be recognized by the conference in 2026. Freshman
Thomas McCarvill (Port Washington, NY) has received two Skyline Rookie of the Week awards (Feb. 23, March 16), while sophomore
Ryan Hannaford (Bayport, NY) took home Offensive Player of the Week honors on Feb. 23.
