THROGGS NECK, NY – Brody Smith (Rehoboth Beach, DE) and
Nick Uzakewicz (Hauppauge, NY) of the Maritime College men's lacrosse team, who were both named Honorable Mention All-American by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA), have each received a second postseason honor. Smith and Uzakewicz were honored with selections to the All-ECAC (Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference) Team.
Smith, who received his All-America nod as a long-stick midfielder, was recognized as a defender by the ECAC. The Skyline Co-Defensive Player of the Year led Maritime with 46 caused turnovers in 18 games. He ranked fourth in the conference with 2.56 ground balls per game, and his 68 ground balls were second-most on the squad. Smith recorded six ground balls and three caused turnovers against Merchant Marine in the Skyline Championship Game, then led the Privateers with eight ground balls while also causing three turnovers against Scranton in the NCAA Tournament.
An attacker, Uzakewicz set a program record with 69 assists this season, including 10 in one game at Purchase on April 25. That was one of just 11 double-digit assist performances across all of NCAA men's lacrosse in 2026. Overall, Uzakewicz finished second nationally with 3.83 assists per game, and his 98 points were the second-most for a single-season in school history. In addition to being named Honorable Mention All-American, he was the Skyline Offensive Player of the Year.
They're the first Maritime players to earn spots on the All-ECAC Team since Kieran Hendry in 2024. The last time multiple Privateers were chosen in the same season was in 2019, when Mark Buchner, Matt DeMeo and Brett Trodden were all recognized.
The ECAC is an 86-year-old organization made up of nearly 200 members across Divisions I, II and III. In order to be considered for the All-ECAC Team, student-athletes must be a first team all-conference selection or major award winner in their primary league.
Maritime made its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2022 this season after notching a come-from-behind 13-12 win over Merchant Marine in the Skyline Championship Game. In their fourth all-time trip to the NCAA Tournament, the Privateers dropped a 15-14 overtime decision at Scranton to finish with a 10-9 overall record.
