THROGGS NECK, NY – After opening the season with a pair of victories over Mitchell and Mass Maritime on Saturday, the Maritime College volleyball team took home all three Skyline Conference weekly awards.  Junior Ashley Pavarini (Ossining, NY) was named Skyline Offensive Player of the Week for her two triple-doubles, while a pair of freshmen were also recognized.  Olivia Casabona (Cross River, NY) was honored as the Skyline Libero of the Week, and Addison Weist (Staten Island, NY) earned a Skyline Rookie of the Week selection.

Pavarini had two triple-doubles on Saturday after posting one over her first two seasons in a Maritime uniform.  In the 3-2 victory over Mitchell, she slammed 15 kills and added 13 digs to go along with a match-high 27 assists.  Pavarini also tallied five service aces in the match.  Against Mass Maritime, she finished with 12 kills and 14 digs while handing out 21 assists in the 3-1 win.  Overall, Pavarini averaged 3.00 kills, 3.00 digs and 5.33 assists per set across the two matches.

Casabona contributed 5.11 digs per set in the two victories.  Against Mitchell, she led the way with 28 digs, as the Privateers held a 98-83 edge in that category.  Casabona also distributed seven assists and served three aces in the 3-2 triumph.  She followed up that effort with an 18-dig performance against Mass Maritime.  She added four assists and an ace in the win.

Weist was dominant in the third set against Mass Maritime, smashing seven kills on .429 hitting.  She finished the match with 14 kills, three aces and five digs.  In the Mitchell match, Weist had an ace that put Maritime in front 10-9 in the fifth set, its first lead after trailing by as many as five points.  In addition to that ace, she had nine kills and 12 digs in the five-set victory.

The Privateers (2-0), who won their first two matches for the first time since 2019, return to action on Tuesday, when they visit Brooklyn (0-0) at 6 p.m.  It's the only road contest among the first nine matches on Maritime's schedule.
