THROGGS NECK, NY – Sophomore guard
Zion Williams (Indianapolis, IN) of the Maritime College men's basketball team has been selected as the Skyline Conference Player of the Week. He averaged 21.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 6.3 assists in three games against Montclair State, UW-River Falls and Knox.
In the loss to No. 10 Montclair State on Wednesday, Williams nearly had a triple-double, finishing with 10 points, eight boards and eight assists. He then collected 25 points and added five rebounds on Friday, as the Privateers opened the Daytona Beach Shootout against UW-River Falls. Williams was 8-for-13 from the field in the contest, and he also recorded a pair of steals. On Sunday, Williams notched a double-double against Knox. He posted 26 points and 10 assists to go along with six boards in the 79-69 victory.
Williams currently leads the league with 4.8 assists per game and ranks sixth in the Skyline in scoring (15.4 points per game). He becomes the second Maritime player to earn Skyline weekly honors this season.
Jake Devaney (Washingtonville, NY) was the Skyline Player of the Week on Nov. 17.
After playing three games in five days, the Privateers now have nearly two weeks off before their next contest. Maritime (5-5, 1-0 Skyline) resumes its Skyline slate by hosting St. Joseph's LI (4-5, 1-0 Skyline) at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3.
