THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College men's basketball team took on 10
th-ranked Montclair State at Riesenberg Gymnasium on Wednesday. Playing in their final home game of 2025, the Privateers (4-4) led by five early on, and it was a three-point game at halftime. The Red Hawks (10-0) pulled away in the second half, however, notching a 97-84 victory.
After Montclair State drained a three-pointer on the game's first possession, Maritime scored the next eight points to take an 8-3 lead. The Red Hawks tied it at 8-8 before a
Jesse Tricario (New Hyde Park, NY) layup put the Privateers back in front. Montclair State eventually pulled ahead, 31-23, but Maritime responded with an 18-10 spurt, leveling the score at 41-41 on a
Tyler Anderson (Smithtown, NY) trey with 2:34 left until halftime. At the break, the Red Hawks held a 49-46 advantage.
Evan Block (Seaford, NY) tied it again with a three on the opening possession of the second half, and the Privateers went back in front when
Jake Devaney (Washingtonville, NY) nailed a trey to make it 56-55 with 16:36 remaining. After a
Sean Kivlan (Floral Park, NY) three-pointer put Maritime up 62-60, Montclair State used a 17-5 run to open up a 77-67 cushion with 7:32 to go. The Privateers trimmed it to eight, 77-69, on
Matthew O'Sullivan's (Rockaway Beach, NY) layup at the 6:59 mark, but would get no closer. The final margin was 13 points, 97-84.
Zion Williams (Indianapolis, IN) nearly had a triple-double for Maritime. He finished with 10 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. Devaney
tallied 25 points to go along with eight boards and three assists, while Tricario registered 18 points on 7-for-9 shooting. He added six rebounds. Anderson
, meanwhile, recorded 14 points, three assists and three steals. As a team, the Privateers shot 48.5 percent (32-of-66) from the floor, 40 percent (8-of-20) from long range, and 75 percent (12-of-16) at the free throw line. Maritime held a 41-38 edge on the glass.
Cristian Nicholson led five Red Hawks in double figures with 18 points. He also dished out five assists. Myles Primas posted 13 points and eight rebounds, while Kabrien Goss and Ryan Cassels chipped in 12 points apiece. Kunga Tsering contributed 10 points and five boards off the bench for Montclair State, which shot a combined 44.4 percent (32-of-72) from the field. The Red Hawks were 15-for-41 (36.6 percent) from downtown and 18-for-22 (81.8 percent) at the charity stripe.
Up next, the Privateers head to Florida for a pair of games at the Daytona Beach Shootout. Maritime begins the trip with a 2 p.m. matchup against UW-River Falls (3-6) on Friday.
