Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY) of the Maritime College men's soccer team has been selected as the Skyline Conference Defensive Player of the Week. He was credited with nine saves in the game.
The Royals outshot the Privateers 19-12 in the contest, including a 9-2 edge in shots on goal. Lebron made two saves in the first 90 seconds, then kept the game scoreless just before halftime by getting his fingertips on an Eastern Mennonite attempt in the 43
rd minute and sending it over the crossbar. In the 87
th minute, he stopped one last Eastern Mennonite opportunity to preserve the shutout.
This is Lebron's second career Skyline weekly honor and first Defensive Player of the Week nod. He was the Skyline Rookie of the Week on Sept. 7, 2022.
Maritime (0-0-1) returns to action on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. matchup against Medgar Evers (0-1-0) at Reinhart Field. It will be the second of four straight home games to open the season for the Privateers.
