THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College men's soccer team was one of 10 programs chosen to participate in this year's Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship. The Privateers (8-5-3) will take on William Paterson (8-8-3) in the first round on Saturday at 5 p.m. from FDU-Florham's Robert T. Shields Field.
This will be Maritime's first ECAC appearance since back-to-back trips in 2017-18. The following year, the Privateers qualified for the NCAA Tournament, their last time reaching the postseason overall. Maritime's eight wins this season are its most since that 2019 campaign.
William Paterson will be playing in the ECAC Championship for the second straight year. Last season, the Pioneers lost their first-round game against Alvernia in overtime. William Paterson has won the ECAC title four times, most recently in 2008.
There are four pods in this year's tournament. The Privateers are the No. 3 seed in Pod 2, while the Pioneers are seeded second. Saturday's winner will advance to face host FDU-Florham (11-3-5) in the second round at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The semifinals and finals will be held on the weekend of Nov. 22-23 at one of the four participating institutions.
Established in 1938, the ECAC includes more than 200 members across all three divisions. The ECAC holds a postseason championship for teams that didn't qualify for the NCAA Tournament in all Division III sports that the organization sponsors.
