MADISON, NJ – After notching its most wins since 2019, the Maritime College men's soccer team was selected to play in this season's Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship. The Privateers opened the tournament on Saturday against William Paterson. The Pioneers (9-8-3) advanced to the second round with a 4-1 victory over Maritime (8-6-3) at FDU-Florham's Robert T. Shields Field.
The Privateers came out aggressively and outshot William Paterson 7-4 in the first half. Maritime was unable to sneak one past Luca Misko, however, and the contest went into overtime scoreless. The Pioneers then notched the game's first goal early in the second half.
It would remain 1-0 until the 66
th minute, when Vincent Richard put one home for William Paterson. After Kai David made it 3-0 in the 78
th minute, the Privateers responded with a goal by
Georgios Tsatalios (Athens, Greece) less than two minutes later. Jaden Blount added an 87
th-minute tally for the Pioneers, who moved on to face host FDU-Florham on Sunday with the 4-1 triumph.
Tsatalios notched his fourth goal of the season to finish in a tie for third on the squad.
Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY) (8-6-3) recorded three saves in his final game in a Maritime uniform. He ends his career with 18 wins, 11 shutouts and 237 saves, all of which rank among the top five in program history.
For William Paterson, Richard had a goal and an assist. Davide Zamnur, David and Blount each added a tally, while Matty Escobar was credited with an assist on the game-winner. Goalkeeper Luca Misko (7-7-3) made seven saves in the victory.
This was the Privateers' first ECAC Tournament appearance since back-to-back trips in 2017-18. Maritime's last postseason game overall came in the 2019 NCAA Tournament.
