THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The curtain will be raised on the Maritime football season this Saturday as the Privateers play host to the Maine Maritime Mariners on Reinhart Field with kickoff slated for 12:00 p.m.

Series History: Maritime holds a 2-0 series lead over Maine Maritime, winning at home in 2015 by a 30-0 score. Last year the Privateers needed overtime to knock off the Mariners, defeating their hosts in Maine by a 35-28 score.

Additions to the Staff: The Maritime coaching staff will see the addition of three new coaches as Cheri Eleazer takes over as H-Backs coach, Jonathan Rijo will serve as the team's defensive line coach, while Michael Day joins the staff as defensive backs coach.

2017 Captains: This year's team will have six captains leading the group, including two-year captains Kendal Parker (Evans, Ga./Lakeside) and Thomas Korwan (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh). Also serving as captains this season are seniors Jacob Shinnick (Pleasanton, Calif./Granada), Connor McDaniel (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip), Nick Conte (Franklin Square, N.Y./Carey), and Craig Hinrichs (Islip, N.Y./Islip).

Top Returners: This season Maritime returns senior All-Region selection Matthew Murphy (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford), who earned a spot on the D3football.com All-Region team after earning first team All-Conference honors. Korwan also earned first team accolades a year ago on the offensive line. Senior defensive back Joshua Burris (Folsom, La./Covington/Gavilan), defensive lineman Wesley Joseph (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood), wide receiver Matt Ward (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North), and McDaniel were all recognized by the ECFC as Honorable Mention selections.

Around the ECFC: Newcomer Alfred State opened up their season last night and fell to Coast Guard by a 34-7 score. On Friday, Mount Ida plays at UMass-Dartmouth, while Anna Maria visits WPI in non-conference action. Saturday kicks off with Maritime and Maine Maritime at noon, followed by Husson hosting Union and Plymouth State hosting Castleton at 1 p.m. Gallaudet rounds out the week with a trip to Shenandoah at 7 p.m. on Saturday evening.
