BRONX, N.Y. – The Maritime men's and women's swimming and diving teams were on the road for the first time on the season on Thursday evening and were able to defeat the Lehman Lightning from the APEX Pool.
The Maritime women's team won their dual meet with the Lightning by the score of 126-79, while the men stormed passed their hosts by a 140-79 score.
At the event the women's team won seven of 13 events as a team, while the men registered wins in nine of 13 events. Included in the women's events was junior
Katia Aaron (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence), who set a new program record in the 1,000 freestyle as she swam to a 12:18.33, breaking her own previous mark of 12:25.72, which she set on December 4 of her freshman season against Mount St. Mary.

Emily Zink (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) led the Privateers with two wins on the night, securing victories in the 200 freestyle and the 100 freestyle for the team. Aaron won the 1,000 freestyle as she set the program record in the process, freshman
Parrish Stinson (Washington, D.C./School without Walls) won the 500 freestyle in swimming action for the Privateers.
In diving competition sophomore
Macy Blakeley (Falls Church, Va./George C. Marshall) won the 1-meter dive with a score of 149.40 with her six dives.
The Privateers opened the night with a win in the 200 medley relay as sophomore
Bethany Champlin (Bronx, N.Y./Saint Vincent), Stinson, junior
Erica Davis (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) and junior
Megan Alicea (Copake, N.Y./Taconic Hills) recorded a 2:21.56.
Aaron followed with her record-setting performance in the 1,000 freestyle with her time of 12:18.33. Davis was second with a 14:54.34. Zink picked up the first of her two wins on the night with a 2:17.57 in the 200 freestyle, as the Privateers swept the event with sophomore
Maura Neely (Towson, Md./Maryvale Prep) and freshman
Samantha Brow (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial).
Champlin led the Privateers in the 50 freestyle with a 30.30, while Stinson led Maritime in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:43.34 as she finished second.
Blakeley was up next on the one meter dive, and registered a score of 149.90, as she went uncontested to record the highest point total in the event.
Aaron was in the 100 butterfly and took second with a 1:07.72, freshman
Anna Curran (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) and Davis took third and fourth respectively.
Zink notched her team-leading second win of the night in the 100 freestyle as she touched the wall first with a time of 1:01.67, just 0.15 seconds ahead of the top Lehman swimmer. Sophomore
Gabrielle Thompson (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) and Brown were third and fourth. Freshman
Margaret Stinson (Washington, D.C./School without Walls) led Maritime in the 100 backstroke with a 1:14.49 and a second place finish.
P. Stinson followed up with a win in the 500 freestyle as she came to the finish with a 6:44.25; Curran was second with a 6:57.53. Neely took second in the 100 breaststroke as she clocked in at 1:35.39, while sophomore
Caroline Gibbons (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) was fourth with a 1:37.76.
The 200 freestyle relay squad of Aaron, Thompson, Zink and Brow cruised to a first place finish with a time of 1:52.08. The second Privateer relay of Alicea, Curran, Gibbons and M. Stinson took second with a 2:07.78 as Maritime closed out the meet in convincing fashion.

Up next was the men's 1-meter diving with Schieferstein leading the way on the board with a score of 134.48, sophomore
Matthew Daghir (Havre de Grace, Md./Aberdeen) took third in the event as his six dives led to a score of 125.70.
Back to swimming competition Marino took second in the 100 butterfly at 58.11, while Loutzenhiser was third with a time of 58.71; Durrua followed at 1:02.14. Blass took second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.17, while Kovatch and Conway followed.
Troy secured his second win of the night in the 100 backstroke with a 1:00.95 to pace the field. Freshman
Mario Goncalves (Easton, Conn./Joel Barlow) took fourth with a 1:16.81 in the backstroke. DeYoung registered a win in the 500 freestyle at 5:47.63, with rookie
Derrick Kennedy (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) picking up a second place finish with a 5:47.69.
Accetta capped off individual competition with a 1:07.45 in the 100 breaststroke, while Folan and Hart took third and fourth.
Maritime finished up the night with a dominant performance in the 200 freestyle relay with a top-two finish. Wu, Kelleher, Troy and Marino finished with a 1:33.15. Kovatch, Loutzenhiser, Verheyleweghen, and Blass took second with a 1:36.98.
Maritime will be back in action on Tuesday evening, when Maritime will open up Skyline Conference competition with Purchase and St. Joseph's (Bklyn) in a double-dual meet at 6 p.m. from the Riesenberg Aquatic Center.
