PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Maritime College men's & women's swimming & diving teams concluded competition at the Metropolitan Championships from Rutgers University's Werblin Recreation Center on Sunday. Three Privateer men reached the "A" final in their event, with
Rowan Hayes (Floral Park, NY) taking silver in the 200 yard breaststroke for his third medal of the meet. Overall, Maritime finished fifth in the men's team standings with 569 total points.
Hayes, who set two school records on Saturday, was the defending Metropolitan champion in the 200 breaststroke. He had the second-fastest time in the preliminaries (2:10.08), then shaved nearly two seconds off in the final. With a 2:08.50 clocking, Hayes grabbed his second silver medal of the competition to go along with his gold in the 100 breaststroke.
Parker Endress (Hamburg, NY) made the "A" final in the 200 yard butterfly. He was the last qualifier out of the morning session, but improved to sixth place in the final with a time of 2:20.02.
Matt Klimek (Malvere, NY), meanwhile, capped his strong meet with an eighth-place showing in the 1650 yard freestyle (19:23.05). He later joined with Hayes,
Victor Pineda (Bronx, NY) and
Liam McManus (Islip, NY) to take fourth in the meet-ending 400 yard freestyle relay (3:25.62).
In the 100 yard freestyle, Pineda qualified for the "B" final and ended up 15
th overall with a time of 53.47 seconds. McManus won the "C" final in 54.41 seconds, which officially placed him 17
th.
On the women's side, the Privateers finished with a total score of 77 points, nearly all of which were contributed by
Lauren Barriteau (Laurelton, NY). She completed her busy program on Sunday by reaching the "A" final in the 200 breaststroke. After posting the fifth-best time during the morning session (2:48.89), Barriteau improved by more than three seconds in the final, capturing fourth place in 2:45.44.
