THROGGS NECK, NY –
On Thursday, the Maritime College men's and women's swimming & diving teams welcomed Baruch to the Riesenberg Aquatics Center.  The Privateer men tallied their highest-ever point total against the Bearcats, but ultimately suffered a 165-115 defeat.  The women's squad, meanwhile, topped the 100-point total against Baruch for the first time in a 146-109 loss.

Maritime began the meet with a victory in the women's 200 yard medley relay.  The quartet of DoriEllen Padden (Palm City, FL), Oceana Elefante (Sayville, NY), Ava King (Homer City, PA) and Kristen Carroll (New York, NY) recorded a time of 2:08.45.  That was the first of three event wins for Padden, who also took first in both the 100 yard backstroke (1:09.05) and 200 yard backstroke (2:30.88).  She added a second-place finish in the 200 yard individual medley (2:33.37).  Kelly Kelly (Madison, CT) picked up another event victory for Maritime after recording 185.70 points in the 1-meter diving competition.

Elefante notched a pair of second-place individual efforts in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:20.95) and 100 yard freestyle (1:02.85).  King was second behind Padden in the 200 backstroke (2:31.32) to go along with second-place showings in the 100 yard butterfly (1:10.18) and 200 yard butterfly (2:44.81).  Carroll also had two second-place finishes in the 200 yard freestyle (2:32.37) and 200 yard breaststroke (3:15.47).  In addition, Celine Argueta (Englewood, NJ) grabbed second place in the 500 yard freestyle (6:44.15) and 1000 yard freestyle (14:00.44), while Katerina Hevaghan's (Brooklyn, NY) 30.05-second clocking was good for second place in the 50 yard freestyle.

Leading the way for the men's team was Rowan Hayes (Floral Park, NY) with three event victories.  He swept the breaststroke events, posting a time of 57.95 seconds in the 100 and a 2:13.70 clocking in the 200.  Hayes added another win in the 200 yard individual medley (2:02.78).  Johnny Walz (Staten Island, NY) notched a pair of individual triumphs, as well, completing a sweep of the diving competition.  He scored 181.85 points on the 1-meter board and 192.85 points in the 3-meter event.

The Privateers earned two more wins on the men's side.  Matt Klimek (Malverne, NY) notched a time of 5:36.78 in the 500 yard freestyle.  Patrick O'Brien (Centerport, NY), meanwhile, made a late surge to lead a 1-2 finish in the 100 yard butterfly.  His 56.75-second clocking just edged teammate Alex Osypenko's (Oyster Bay, NY) time of 56.89 seconds.  Frank Conwell (Staten Island, NY) contributed another second-place showing for Maritime in the 200 yard backstroke (2:13.68).

Up next for the Privateers is their annual tri-meet with Skyline Conference rivals Merchant Marine and Mount St. Mary.  The Mariners will serve as the home team this year, with the competition scheduled to get underway at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13.
