KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The Maritime men's and women's swimming and diving teams took part in the Merchant Marine Invitational on Saturday at O'Hara Pool. The event was a non-scoring event, as no team scores were kept at the meet featuring teams from throughout the tri-state area.

Freshman Margaret Stinson got the day started for the Privateers with the opening leg of the 200 medley relay, juniors
Emily Zink (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) and
Katia Aaron (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence), as well as freshman
Samantha Brow (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) registered a time of 2:09.02.
Freshman
Anna Curran (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) was the lone Privateer in the pool for the 500 freestyle and recorded a time of 6:38.56. Aaron was up next in the 200 individual medley and recorded at time of 2:36.52. Brow led Maritime in the 100 freestyle with a 1:01.71, while sophomore
Gabrielle Thompson (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) was next to finish for Maritime with a 1:06.25.
In the 100 yard backstroke it was Stinson to lead Maritime as she recorded a time of 1:15.74, while sophomore
Bethany Champlin (Bronx, N.Y./Saint Vincent) had a 1:33.26. Sophomore
Maura Neely (Towson, Md./Maryvale Prep) and junior
Megan Alicea (Copake, N.Y./Taconic Hills) took part in the next event, which was the 100 breaststroke.
Aaron led Maritime in the 200 fly with a time of 2:43.24 for the final swim event before the first diving break.
Sophomore
Macy Blakeley (Falls Church, Va./George C. Marshall) took third in diving with a 150.90, while senior
Alexandra Schnabel (Lindenhurst, N.Y./St. Anthony's) took fifth at 130.35.
Returning to swimming action Maritime was led by Brow with a time of 27.57 in the 50 freestyle, while Stinson and Thompson also recorded sub-30 second times in the sprint. Zink was the top finisher in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:39.50. With little time to rest, Zink was in the 400 individual medley and registered a time of 5:38.12.
Aaron was Maritime's top finisher in the 200 freestyle as she touched the wall in 2:19.91. The 100 fly saw Curran touch with a 1:21.77, followed closely by junior
Erica Davis (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) with a 1:24.69. Zink paced the Privateers with a time of 3:04.33 in the 200 breaststroke, with Neely also competing in the event.
The 400 freestyle relay was last on the schedule, and Maritime finished with a 4:27.76 as Zink, Aaron, Thompson and Brow swam for the Privateers.

In the 100 backstroke freshman
Caelan Troy (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) paced the Maritime swimmers as he scored a time of 59.98. Marino took fourth overall in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:03.69, while Wu was closed behind at 1:03.76, Accetta also finished in the top ten with a time of 1:05.35. In the 200 fly Maritime was led by junior
Jesse Pierce (Broadway, Va./Broadway) with a 2:30.12, followed by freshman
Derrick Kennedy (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) and junior
Christopher Chilelli (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Regional).
Sophomore Matthew Daghir was the lone male diver for the Privateers and scored a 125.63 through his series of dives from the one-meter board.
Troy led the Privateers in the 50 freestyle at 23.57, while Katz and senior
James Conway (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) were next to finish for the Privateers. Marino led Maritime in the 200 backstroke with a 2:14.27, while Kelleher recorded a fourth place finish in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:48.02.
Kelleher took 10th in the 200 freestyle at 1:57.34, while Russell added a 13th place time of 2:01.09. In the 100 butterfly it was once again Marino to lead the way with a time of 56.34, while Wu and Troy were both within 0.05 behind Marino.
In the 200 breaststroke, Accetta paced the Privateers with a 2:23.31, while sophomore
Ian Folan (Bethel, Conn./Notre Dame) and sophomore
Matt Hart (Bayonne, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) took eighth and ninth behind Accetta at seventh.
Finally in the men's 400 freestyle relay the Privateers had Katz, Blass, Russell and Wu register a time of 3:37.47 to close out the event.
Maritime will return to traditional competition on Friday, December 1, as Maritime will make the trip to Newburgh, N.Y. for a dual meet with the Mount St. Mary Knights beginning at 6 p.m. from the Kaplan Center Pool.
