GLEN COVE, NY – It was a busy weekend for the Maritime College sailing team on Sept. 13-14, with the dinghy, women's and offshore squads all in action. The Privateers qualified for the Luce Regatta in mid-October with a second-place showing at the Coho Memorial Open, hosted by the Webb Institute. Maritime also sent both open and women's crews to Cornell, while the offshore season got underway with the Shields Trophy at the U.S. Naval Academy.
At the Coho Memorial Open, the Privateers took second in the "A" division and third (by one point) in the "B" division. Overall, Maritime finished with a total of 47 points. The "A" crew of
Jeremy Lunati (Stony Brook, NY) and

Maritime's offshore contingent of
Isabelle Gautier (Pascagoula, MS),
Max Baldeon (Bronx, NY),
Robert Wieczorek III (Greenport, NY),
Christopher Zender (Sayville, NY),
Ethan Narofsky (East Chatham, NY),
Tyler Mendes (Eastchester, NY),
Sebastien Lemaire (Moorestown, NJ) and
Louis Kirk (New Rochelle, NY) tallied 31 points across four races on Saturday at the Shields Trophy. There was insufficient wind for any racing on Sunday, so the Privateers' eighth-place standing after Day 1 ended up being their final result.
Next weekend, the women's team heads to Princeton for the Tiger Women's Open and the open dinghy squad travels to the Stony Brook Fall Open. The next offshore event is the Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta on Oct. 11-12.
