KINGS POINT, NY – On Saturday and Sunday, April 25-26, the Maritime College dinghy sailing team made the short trip to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy for the Admiral's Cup. In their final competition of the 2025-26 season, the Privateers finished 13
th overall with 303 total points.
Despite miserable conditions, eight races in each division were completed on Saturday. The weather was much more pleasant on Sunday, when an additional six races were run in both fleets.
Maritime's "A" team consisted of
Nathaniel Hartwell (Daphne, AL) and
Juliana Sarich (New York, NY) on Saturday before
Luke Barker (Rocky River, OH) and
Andrew McCarthy (Hamden, CT) took over for Sunday's six races. Hartwell and Sarich's best effort was sixth place in Race 2. Barker and McCarthy, meanwhile, began the final day of the regatta with a fifth-place finish in Race 9. Overall, the Privateers earned 144 points in the "A" division.
In the "B" boat, Maritime tallied 159 points. The Privateers' best showing came in Race 4, when
Adam Starck (Lakewood, OH) and
Michael Saharov (Staten Island, NY) placed seventh. Starck and Saharov sailed together for the first eight races, while
Joseph Herrick (Bay Shore, NY) contested all six races on Sunday. He was joined by
Jeremy Lunati (Stony Brook, NY) in four races, then served as the skip alongside
Christopher Taylor (Babylon, NY) to close out the event.
This marked the end of Maritime's Spring campaign. The Privateers will also begin their 2026 Fall season at Merchant Marine in September.
