Results: Coho Memorial Open | Jack Boehringer Memorial Regatta | Susan Rogers Invitational

GLEN COVE, NY – After a strong start to the season last weekend, the Maritime College sailing team followed up that performance by capturing second place overall at the Coho Memorial Open, hosted by the Webb Institute, on Saturday.  The Privateers also sent a contingent to Cornell for the John Boehringer Memorial Regatta and Susan Rogers Invitational, but the wind was not cooperative.  Only one race in each fleet was able to be contested, resulting in an incomplete event.

Weather was not a concern at the Coho Memorial Open, as the scheduled two-day regatta was completed in one.  Maritime finished with 53 total points across eight races, just four behind first-place Hamilton.  The duo of Jeremy Lunati (Stony Brook, NY) and RJ Calanese (Huntington, NY) sailed in the "A" division and earned three victories (Races 3, 7 & 8).  They also had a second-place finish in Race 1.  In the "B" division, meanwhile, Joseph Herrick (Bay Shore, NY) and Michael Saharov (Staten Island, NY) took first in the opening race and ended the regatta with three consecutive third-place results (Races 6-8). 

The Privateers' success at the event would not have been possible without Pete Snyder from the Waterfront, who transported the team to and from the regatta.

At Cornell, a lack of wind seriously hampered the competition.  Since the required three races per division weren't completed, neither the John Boehringer Memorial Regatta (open) or Susan Rogers Invitational (women) will go down as an official event.  The results for the single race that went off won't count and teams won't receive any qualifying points towards postseason regattas.

Maritime had three boats entered in both races.  Adam Starck (Lakewood, OH) and Brian Lynch (Mattituck, NY) were fifth in the John Boehringer, while Luke Barker (Rocky River, OH) and Nicholas Cunha (Red Bank, NJ) placed 11^th and the all-freshman duo of Victor Schlecker (Elkton, MD) and Jack Allen (Satellite Beach, FL) finished 17^th.  In the Susan Rogers, meanwhile, the Privateers' top team was Nikita Troast (Brooklyn, NY) and Juliana Sarich (New York, NY).  They ended up 11^th.  Grace Wilson (Lexington Park, MD) and Sara Altman (Airmont, NY) came across 13^th, and Nicole Ostapowicz (Amityville, NY) and Riley Gross (Fairfield, CT) took 17^th.

This weekend, Maritime hosts its annual Fall Open on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26-27.  The offshore squad will also compete in its first event of the season, the American Yacht Club Fall Invitational in Rye, NY.
