Devaney Earns Place on All-Metropolitan Third Team

THROGGS NECK, NY – The Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) has announced its annual Division III All-Metropolitan Team, and Maritime College forward Jake Devaney (Washingtonville, NY) was named to the All-Met Third Team.  The MBWA is the third different organization to award Devaney a postseason honor this season.  He was previously recognized as the ECAC Rookie of the Year, and he also earned a place on the D3hoops.com All-Region Second Team.

Devaney, the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year and a First Team All-Skyline selection, finished sixth in the league in scoring (16.9 ppg) and fourth in rebounding (7.6 rpg) this season.  He also ranked third in blocks (1.6 bpg) and fourth in field goal percentage (.463), as the Privateers reached the semifinals of the Skyline Tournament for the second time in three years.  Maritime went 16-11 overall, including an 11-5 conference record, and hosted a Skyline quarterfinal for the third consecutive year.

A nine-time Skyline Rookie of the Week, Devaney scored 20 or more points 10 times and posted four double-doubles.  On Feb. 19 against St. Joseph's Brooklyn, he had 34 points, the third-highest single-game total in program history, and added 11 rebounds for Maritime's first 30-point double-double since 2010.  Devaney appeared in all 27 games this season, starting 26, and tallied 457 points while grabbing 205 rebounds and recording 42 blocks.  All three of those totals are among the Privateers' single-season Top 10 in the respective category.

This marks the third straight season in which a Maritime player has earned a spot on the All-Met Third Team.  Ryan Donovan was honored in 2022-23, while Jake Murphy was recognized last season.

Only players at the 36 Division III schools in the MBWA coverage area are eligible for All-Met recognition, with the team chosen by media members.  Honoring men's and women's players across all three divisions throughout the New York area, the All-Met awards are the oldest and longest-running media-managed college basketball awards program in the country.  First presented in 1936, All-Met Teams were selected for the 92nd consecutive time this season.
