Maritime Competes at War Memorial

Results

GENEVA, NY –
After initially not qualifying, the Maritime College dinghy sailing team received a late invitation to participate in the War Memorial on Oct. 25-26.  The Privateers competed against 17 other schools in the championship event at Hobart & William Smith Colleges and captured 15th place overall.

The wind conditions on Seneca Lake were challenging all weekend and resulted in only eight rounds of racing being completed.  Maritime rebounded from a rough first day to pass two teams in the standings on Sunday and finish with 193 total points.

Adam Starck (Lakewood, OH) and Amelia Tebbens (Center Moriches, NY) ranked 12th in the "A" division after tallying 81 points.  They grabbed second place in the final race of the regatta.  In the "B" boat, Luke Barker (Rocky River, OH) and Nathaniel Hartwell (Daphne, AL) each served as the skipper alongside Nicholas Cunha (Red Bank, NJ) in four races.  Barker and Cunha's best result was 10th place in the opening race, while Hartwell and Cunha took eighth in Race 6.

This marked the end of the Fall dinghy competition season.  The schedule will resume with team racing events in March.  The Privateers' offshore squad, meanwhile, heads to the U.S. Naval Academy this weekend for its National Championship regatta—the Kennedy Cup.
