THROGGS NECK, NY –
On Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 27-28, the Maritime College sailing team welcomed 13 other squads to Fort Schuyler for the annual Maritime Fall Open.  Unfortunately, a lack of wind proved to be an issue all weekend, as just five races were able to be completed in both the "A" and "B" divisions.  The Privateers ended up finishing seventh overall with 73 points in the regatta.

The Maritime Society's Monomoy Races were also being held along the Waterfront on Saturday, creating a festive atmosphere despite the wind-related postponement.  The sailing regatta was finally able to get underway on Saturday afternoon, but only three races were held before the wind died down again.  There were similar issues on Sunday, when two races in each division were contested.

In the "A" division, the Privateers' crew consisted of two freshmen—Adam Starck (Lakewood, OH) and Amelia Tebbens (Center Moriches, NY).  They won the third race and ranked eighth with 39 total points.  Maritime also had two newcomers race in the "B" boat.  Nikita Troast (Brooklyn, NY) and RJ Calanese (Huntington, NY) tallied 34 points to place sixth in the division.  Their best result was third place in Race 4.

Coast Guard won the team title after collecting 28 total points across the 10 races in both divisions.  The Bears took first in the "A" division with 13 points, while Hobart & William Smith's first-place total in the "B" division was 11 points.

Next weekend, the coed dinghy squad heads to Bowdoin for the Hewitt Trophy.  The Privateers will have two full teams—four boats—entered in the event.
