THROGGS NECK, NY – After leading the Maritime College men's basketball team to its first postseason appearance in 15 years, senior guard Jake Murphy (Rockville Centre, NY) has been named Third Team All-Metropolitan by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA).  Murphy was a First Team All-Skyline Conference selection this season, as the Privateers went 14-13 overall and received the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament.

Murphy ranked seventh in the Skyline Conference with 16.4 points per game and was third in the league with a three-point percentage of .388.  He also shot .753 from the free throw line and tied for the team lead with 34 steals while sinking 54 three-pointers, second-most on the squad.

In 25 games, Murphy scored 20 or more points nine times, including four straight outings from Jan. 20-30.  On Jan. 27 against Mount St. Vincent, he poured in a career-high 28 points and added 10 rebounds for his first career double-double.  Murphy had a career-best seven assists against SUNY Canton on Dec. 30 and tallied five steals in a win over St. Joseph's Brooklyn on Feb. 10.

This marks the second straight year in which a Maritime player earned a place on the All-Met Third Team.  Prior to Ryan Donovan's selection last season, no Privateer had received All-Met honors since the 2017-18 campaign.

Only players at the 36 Division III schools in the MBWA coverage area are eligible for All-Met recognition.  This is the 91st consecutive year in which media members have honored the best players in the New York area across all three divisions for both men and women.  It's the longest-running media-managed college basketball awards program in the country.
