Jake Devaney (Washingtonville, NY) of the Maritime College men's basketball team has once again been named Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week. He received the award for the third consecutive time after averaging 18.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in the Privateers' first two road games of the season.
In Maritime's 78-73 victory at John Jay on Wednesday, Devaney finished with 15 points on 6-for-11 shooting while also pulling down nine boards. He added three assists and a block in the game. Then on Saturday at William Paterson, Devaney had a career-high 22 points to go along with six rebounds. He went 8-for-15 from the field in the contest, including 2-for-3 from three-point range, and had a shooting percentage of 53.8 percent across the two outings. Devaney converted all six of his free throw attempts in the two games, as well.
For the season, he's currently leading the Privateers in scoring with an average of 17.2 points a night. Devaney is also second on the squad with 7.6 rebounds per game and has recorded a team-high seven blocks.
The Privateers (4-1) travel to West Point for an exhibition matchup with Army (3-3) for a 7 p.m. matchup on Tuesday. Maritime's next regular season contest is against CCNY (1-1) at Riesenberg Gymnasium on Tuesday, Dec. 3.
