Results: Nevins Trophy | Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta
LARCHMONT, NY – The Maritime College offshore sailing team returned to action for the first time in a month on Oct. 12-13, taking part in the Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta at the Larchmont Yacht Club. Maritime's dinghy sailors, meanwhile, made the short trip to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy for the Nevins Trophy.
In the Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta, the Privateers competed in the J-109 class and took fifth overall with 27 points. Maritime had three fourth-place finishes and three fifth-place showings in the six-race series.
Marz Henehan (San Diego, CA) served as the Privateers' skipper and was joined aboard the "Resolute" by
Kevin Kokiadis (Levittown, NY),
James Jensen (Lynbrook, NY),
Shane Bellino (Selden, NY),
Cecilia DeMallie (Naples, NY),
Christopher Zender (Sayville, NY) and
Ethan Narofsky (East Chatham, NY).
Maritime posted an overall score of 421 points at the Nevis Trophy, which was good for 17
th place in the team standings. The Privateers tallied 198 points in the "A" division, highlighted by a ninth-place finish in the ninth of 14 races. In the "B" division, meanwhile, Maritime earned 223 total points.
Nathaniel Hartwell (Daphne, AL) skipped the "A" boat in each of the first eight races.
Tyler Mendes (Eastchester, NY) joined him the first six races, while
Nicholas Cunha (Red Bank, NJ) took over for Races 7-8.
Isabelle Gautier (Pascagoula, MS) replaced Hartwell in Race 9 and sailed the remainder of the regatta alongside Cunha. In the "B" boat, meanwhile, Maritime was represented by the duo of
Luke Barker (Rocky River, OH) and
Andrew McCarthy (Hamden, CT).
Next weekend, Oct. 19-20, marks the second consecutive weekend in which both squads will be competing. The dinghy team heads to Connecticut College for the Open ACC Tournament, while the offshore sailors head to the U.S. Naval Academy for one of the biggest events on the fall schedule—the McMillan Cup.
