Results: McMillan Cup | David Lee Arnoff Trophy | Nevins Trophy
ANNAPOLIS, MD – On Oct. 14-15, the Maritime College offshore sailing team competed in its first championship event of the fall season—the McMillan Cup at the U.S. Naval Academy. The Privateers finished fifth overall with 42 points. Maritime's dinghy sailors, meanwhile, were in action at the David Lee Arnoff Trophy, taking fifth in that regatta, as well.
At the McMillan Cup, the Privateers raced a crew of
Alexander Wise (Houston, TX),
James Jensen (Lynbrook, NY),
Sean Fogarty (Brick, NJ),
Carianne Sconzo (Rockaway Beach, NY),
Ethan Narofsky (East Chatham, NY),
Marleigh Henehan (San Diego, CA),
Brendan Boyle (Larchmont, NY) and
Thomas Rohmann (Glenelg, MD). They captured second place in Race 3 and closed the seven-race series with a third-place finish in their Navy 44. Maritime finished level on points with both Rhode Island and the College of Charleston, but was awarded fifth place in the standings on the head-to-head tiebreaker.
The dinghy squad competed at the David Lee Arnoff Trophy, which was hosted by Hobart & William Smith Colleges. Maritime's "A" crew of
Brooks Turcotte (Chautauqua, NY) and
Harrison Trout (Mobile, AL) collected 87 points in their Z420. Turcotte and Trout took second in the third of 12 races.
In the "B" boat,
Marcus Adam (Severna Park, MD) sailed with
Kaitlyn Scarcella (Staten Island, NY) for the first 10 races before
Jeremy Lunati (Stony Brook, NY) replaced Scarcella for the final two. Adam and Scarcella finished second in Race 6 and fourth in Race 8. Overall, the Privateers gathered 111 points in the "B" division, giving Maritime a total score of 198 points.
Maritime also competed at the Nevis Trophy, hosted by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
Spencer Barnes (Rocky River, OH) skipped the "A" boat, where he was joined by
Shawn Tirone (Jackson Township, NJ) for two races and
Rebecca Runyan (Mastic, NY) for the final eight. In the "B" division,
Ben Hosford (Fairport, NY) raced a 420 alongside both
Nicholas Cunha (Red Bank, NJ) and
Noah Kuzloski (Point Pleasant Beach, NJ). The "A" team placed third in Race 5 and the "B" squad was fourth in Race 10, as Maritime ended up 17
th overall with 247 total points.
Up next for the dinghy team is the Open ACC Tournament, which this year is being held at Merchant Marine, on Oct. 21-22. The offshore squad is off until its second championship event of the fall—the Kennedy Cup, on Nov. 4-5.
