THROGGS NECK, NY – Junior defender Kathryn Sandford (Floral Park, NY) of the Maritime College women's soccer team has been selected as the Skyline Conference Defensive Player of the Week.  She scored three goals in the Privateers' two games against Yeshiva and Bard last week while playing all 90 minutes in both contests.

In the 6-1 win over Yeshiva last Tuesday night, Sandford had a pair of tallies. She broke a 1-1 tie with her goal early in the second half, then added another in the 69^th minute.  On Saturday against Bard, meanwhile, Sandford sent a header towards net in the 17^th minute that the goalkeeper got her fingers on, but was unable to stop.  It was her fifth goal of the year, tying her for the team lead.

Maritime (2-3-0, 1-0-0 Skyline) is back in action on Tuesday night, when defending Skyline champion Farmingdale (1-5-1, 1-0-0 Skyline) visits Reinhart Field at 7 p.m.  It will be the second of four straight home games for the Privateers, who host Purchase (3-0-0, 1-0-0 Skyline) in another Skyline Conference matchup on Friday.
