YONKERS, NY – The Maritime College women's soccer team visited Sarah Lawrence for a Skyline Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.
Divine Awoleke (Queens, NY) scored her second collegiate goal in the 42
nd minute, but that was it for the Privateers (4-6-0, 2-5-0 Skyline) in an 8-1 loss to the Gryphons (4-8-1, 3-3-0 Skyline) at Fleming Field.
Sarah Lawrence got a pair of early tallies from Hailee Duckrey and Katey Beaver before Hannah Chaffin made it 3-0 in the 27
th minute. After Viktoria Balbin increased the Gryphons' lead to 4-0, Awoleke found the back of the net off an
Ava Morrill (New Windsor, NY) corner kick. The assist was Morrill's fourth of the season and the 17
th of her career, tying her with Kadie Hook and Jorrie Trenkamp for the all-time program record.
Chaffin notched her second goal of the game in the 56
th minute, and the Gryphons scored three times in a four minute span late in the contest. Sarah Lawrence outshot Maritime 41-6, including a 24-3 edge in shots on goal, and
Estela Quintero (Oceanside, NY) (4-6-0) made a career-high 16 saves for the Privateers.
Seven different Gryphons found the back of the net, with Chaffin tallying two goals and an assist. Balbin and Beaver each recorded a goal and an assist, while Stella Sturgill had two assists for Sarah Lawrence. Bella Vaca (2-7-1) got the start in goal and earned the win. Arwen Browne played 30 minutes and allowed the Adoleke goal before Lauren Zamora notched a pair of saves over the final 34 minutes.
Maritime now has a week off before its next outing. The Privateers visit Manhattanville (4-8-0, 3-4-0 Skyline) next Saturday at 12 p.m.
