PURCHASE, NY – The Maritime College women's soccer team returned to action for the first time in a week on Saturday afternoon with a matchup at Manhattanville. The short-handed Privateers (4-7-0, 2-6-0 Skyline) gave the Valiants (5-9-0, 4-4-0 Skyline) everything they could handle, but ultimately dropped a 2-0 decision at GoValiants.com Field.
It was a 0-0 game until the 39
th minute, when Manhattanville got on the board. Stephanie Sanchez took a corner kick and found Jenny Amaral in the box. Amaral put it away to put the Valiants in front 1-0. Sanchez then added a goal of her own in the 49
th minute.
Manhattanville outshot Maritime 22-5, but was unable to sneak another one past
Estela Quintero (Oceanside, NY) (4-7-0). She was credited with three saves in the losing effort. Macey Girard (4-7-0) had a clean sheet in net for the Valiants.
On Tuesday, the Privateers visit Mount St. Mary (5-9-1, 5-3-0 Skyline) at 6 p.m. It will be Maritime's final road game of the season.
