This past Saturday, ten rowers from the Maritime Crew Team participated in the Saint Valentine's Day Indoor Regatta organized by the Pelham Community Rowing Association at the Mount Saint Michael Academy in the Bronx. An indoor regatta is an individual 2000 meter competition on the Concept2 Indoor Rowing Machines.
On the women's side, Chloe Jung won her race in the Women's Collegiate Lightweight category in 8:58.1 min. Samara Podmore competed in the same race coming in second with a time of 9:26.3 min. Shirley Diaz won her race in the Women's Collegiate Openweight category in 8:33.1 min.
Among the men, Jonathan Storck placed third in the Men's Collegiate Lightweight category behind two rowers from Manhattan college in a time of 7:45.5 min. Mykola Tkachenko (7:54.3) and Srinivasa Mudumba (8:11.2) competed in the same event placing fourth and fifth respectively. Maritime also competed in the hardest category, the Men's Collegiate Openweight. Erik Hanke placed fourth behind a rower from the Albany Rowing Center and two rowers from Manhattan College with a time of 6:58.1. Mark Reeve (7:12.2) placed seventh, Jacob Pascarella (7:17.9) came in ninth, and Justin Woo (7:47.8) captured eleventh place.
The Privateers first on water competition is scheduled for Saturday, March 21st, at the Murphy Cup Regatta.
