Rowing Features Pair of Sunday Entries at Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston

BOSTON, Mass. – The Maritime rowing team was back in action at the Head of the Charles Regatta this weekend on the Charles River in Boston. The Privateers had a pair of entries in the men's collegiate fours and the women's collegiate fours.

The Head of the Charles is one of the most prestigious races in the world, featuring over 11,000 athletes at the two-day event. At this year's regatta the water was very flat with a slight tailwind allowing for faster times.

The men's team hit the water at a much faster pace than the Navy Day Regatta. Consisting of the same rowers as the week prior; freshman Roury Higgins (Miami, Fla./Christopher Columbus) was stroking and following was freshman Stefano Korkotas (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage), sophomore John Woods (Worcester, Mass./St. John's), freshman Christian Tanas (Chatham, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) and junior coxswain Christopher Chilelli (Bordentown N.J./Bordentown Regional).

The boat passed only one crew on the course, but were moving on crews in front of them being bow card 30 out of 42. With impressive steering from their coxswain and some newfound speed they pulled a 17:30.664 and placed 29th out of 42. The Privateers edged Carnegie Mellon, Duke and Bowdoin in the process.

The women's collegiate fours were placed with bow card 24 and the boat consisted of senior stroke seat Alexandra Schnabel (Lindenhurst, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and following her was junior Jean Colgan (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North), freshman Kelly Guerrero (Bay Shore, N.Y./St. John the Baptist), sophomore Gabriella Franco (East Setauket, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and sophomore Coxswain Madison Burbol (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport).

The women finished with a time of 23:16.813 and placed 36th out of 36 in a very competitive field.

Moving forward the team looks ahead The Head of the Fish Regatta, in Saratoga Springs N.Y. Entries from the Maritime rowing team will include a men's and women's collegiate four, a men's and women's novice four, a men's novice eight and a mixed eight to conclude the day on Fish Creek.
