The Maritime College rowing teams traveled to Bridgeport, PA on Sunday, September 29 for their first action of the 2019 season.
Since this was the first regatta of the season only experienced rowers from last year, or mugs who had previous rowing experience participated, with two notable exceptions: Chloe Jung and Gillian Csoban. Jung rowed in the bow seat of the Women's Varsity Four with Coxswain, and performed very well. Csoban who is also a newer member to the sport of rowing jumped into the coxswain's seat of the first Men's Varsity Four with Coxswain. She steered an excellent course in a very competitive race.
The Women's Varsity Four with Jennifer Cosgrove in stroke, Kim Walsh, Shirley Diaz, Chloe Jung in bow, and
Ben Ludwig (New City, N.Y./Clarsktown North) in the coxswain's seat raced the 2.5 mile course in 23:51.97, beating the team from the University of Scranton but the US Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point was able to squeak out a first place finish.
In the Men's category the Privateers entered with two boats, a Varsity Four and a second Varsity Four. The first boat was rowed by
Alex Miller (Centreville, Va./Westfield) (stroke), Mark Reeve, Erik Hanke, Gianni Paladino (bow), and Gillian Csoban (coxswain). The boat placed third with a time of 19:07.53, after the boat from the very formidable Fairmount Rowing Association and USMMA.
Maritime's second Varsity Four with Dominic Dorval (stroke), Srinivasa Mudumba, Jonathan Storck, Charles Schoening (bow), and coxswain
Ben Ludwig (New City, N.Y./Clarsktown North), raced unopposed, thus earning a gold medal with a time of 21:18.78.
Head coach
