The Maritime College swim teams traveled to St. Joseph's College Long Island to take on the Golden Eagles and the Sarah Lawrence Gryphons. The women's swim team came out with a thrilling 95-93 win over Sarah Lawrence while the men stayed undefeated with a 132-69 win over the Gryphons. Unfortunately, the women weren't able to take out the host and fell 107-94 to St. Joseph's College.
On the women's side,
Emma Haedrich (West Islip, NY/West Islip),
Katia Aaron (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence),
Emily Zink (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport), and
Samantha Brow (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) got things going with a second place finish in the 200-yard medley relay as they touched the wall with a time of 2:10.31. Aaron then followed it up in the next event finishing second in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:10.03.
Gabrielle Thompson (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) kept things rolling for the Privateers in the 50-yard freestyle as she recorded a time of 28.5 to tally another second place finish. Zink put up a solid time in the next event as she recorded a 2:35.82 time in the 200-yard IM.
Aaron picked up the first win of the day for Maritime as she beat out St. Joseph's Long Island with a time of 5:56.22 in the 500-yard freestyle. Zink then added another good performance to her meet as touched second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:21.21, out-touching third place by .09 seconds.
In the final event of the meet,
Catherine Teige (Tuckahoe, N.Y./Our Lady of Good Counsel), Thompson,
Bethany Champlin (Bronx, N.Y./Saint Vincent), and Brow capped it off in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:52.95.
On the men's side,
Kevin Wu (Flushing, N.Y./Francis Lewis),
Caelan Troy (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park),
Nathanael Marino (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain), and
Daniel Walsh (Naugatuck, CT/Sacred Heart) picked up a win in the first event with a time of 1:43.39 in the 200-yard medley relay. The Privateers then came up with a dominant performance in the 1000-yard freestyle as
Stephen Kelleher (Poughquag, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes),
Jesse Pierce (Broadway, Va./Broadway), and
Derrick Kennedy (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) placed first, second, and third, respectively.
Spencer Blass (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) and
Adam Durrua (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Beach) followed it up with second
Wu picked up his second win of the day in the 50-yard freestyle as he touched the wall at 22.77. Matthew Hart,
Gabriel Menz (Vineland, NJ/Vineland), and
Tristan DeYoung (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) then picked up more points for the Privateers as they placed second, third, and fourth in the 200-yard medlay.
Marino picked up another win for Maritime in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.92, while
Alex Baros (Phoenix, AZ/Brophy College Preparatory) was right on his tail in second place with a time of 59.34.
Troy added another win in the 100-yard backstroke touching first at 1:02.49 while
Zach Woolley (Poughkeepsie, NY/Poughkeepsie) finished second at 1:06.34.
In the final event,
Christopher Chilelli (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Regional), Blass, Troy, and Wu capped off the day with a time of 1:38.40 and a first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle.
The Privateers take the pool at the USMMA Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 11:00 a.m.
