The Maritime College swimming and diving teams competed at the USMMA Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The event was not scored and the Privateers got in some solid swimming and diving against 11 other tough opponents.
In the 500-yard freestyle,
Katia Aaron (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) defeated swimmers from both USMMA and Adelphi for a seventh place finish with a time of 5:55.0. Aaron then swam in the next event on the women's side, the 200-yard IM, and beat swimmers from FIT and St. Peter's with a time of 2:36.34.
Samantha Brow (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) finished 12th out of 42 swimmers in the 100-yard freestyle as she touched the wall at 1:00.66. Brow also finished 17th out of 52 swimmers in the 50-yard freestyle.
Macy Blakeley (Falls Church, Va./George C. Marshall) put up a new season-best in the 1-meter dive with a score of 1:53.15, and
Joseph Montano (Putnam Valley, NY/Putnam Valley) added a new season-high of his own on the men's side with a score of 1:53.40.
Aaron, Brow,
Bethany Champlin (Bronx, N.Y./Saint Vincent), and
Ashley Giorgio (Islip, N.Y./Islip) capped off the event on the women's side with a time of 4:31.06 in the 400-yard freestyle.
Nathanael Marino (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain) put up a good performance in the 200-yard IM as he paced Maritime with a time of 2:07.63 and an 11th place finish.
Daniel Walsh (Naugatuck, CT/Sacred Heart) turned in a time of 50.96 in the 100-yard freestyle and placed 18th out of 35 swimmers.
In the 100-yard backstroke,
Nicholas Mastronikolas (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) out-touched an Adelphi swimmer and placed 18th with a time of 1:06.77. Marino then recorded a top-ten finish for Maritime in the 100-yard breaststroke as he placed seventh at 1:03.57.
The 50-yard freestyle saw back-to-back finishes from the Privateers as
Spencer Blass (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) and
Caelan Troy (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) finished with times of 23.57 and 23.63, respectively. Walsh then put up a top-five finish for Maritime in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:36.35.
Blass came up with a 12th place finish out of 30 swimmers in the 200-yard freestyle as he touched the wall at 1:56.60. The event was then capped off with a fifth place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay by
John Moloney (Selkrik, NY/Bethlehem Central),
Stephen Kelleher (Poughquag, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes), Troy, and Blass with a time of 3:33.86.
Maritime gets back into Skyline Conference dual meet action on Tuesday, Nov. 29 as they travel to Purchase College.
