BRONX, N.Y. – This past weekend the Maritime dinghy sailing team did not have to travel far as the Privateers took part in the Greater New York Dinghy Regatta hosted by Fordham University. In an abbreviated stint on the water due to poor weather on Saturday and lack of wind on Sunday, the Privateers ended the weekend in 10th position out of 12 teams at the regatta.

Three races took place for both Division A and Division B, with the Division A racking up 19 points for sixth best in their division. The Division B pairing recorded 31 points racing on 420s throughout the weekend as the Privateers wrapped up with a combined score of 50.

Sophomore
John Lawless (Rochester, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) skippered Division A for the first two rotations alongside freshman
Macy Blakeley (Falls Church, Va./George C. Marshall), freshman
Matthew Daghir (Havre de Grace, Md./Aberdeen) took over at skipper for the third race with Blakeley continuing her stay as crew. During the two races skippered by Lawless, the Privateers took third place and fourth place.

Meanwhile in Division B, freshman
Aidan Molesky (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) skippered the three races in the division with fellow rookie
Maura Neely (Towson, Md./Maryvale Prep) on board as crew. In their three rotations together, the pair finished 10th through the first two runs before falling back to 11th in their last race.

Host Fordham took the top spot at the regatta with a combined score of 12 points, while Tufts was second with 18 and Cornell third with 19. With a combined 50 points, the Privateers finished in 10th position, just one point behind Sacred Heart with 49. Maritime finished ahead of both Syracuse (62 points) and Army-West Point (64 points).

Following the close stay in the Bronx, the team will compete once more in the month of April as the Privateers will take part in the America Trophy Regatta (MAISA Conference Championship) hosted by Cornell will begin on Saturday and will continue into Sunday afternoon.
