PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Maritime rowing teams were back on the water this past weekend, taking part in the Kerr Cup hosted by Drexel on the Schuykill River.

The Privateers had five entries on the day with competitors taking part in the men's varsity four, varsity pair, novice eight and novice four, while the women's team was entered in the NCAA Division III varsity four.

The men's varsity pair of seniors
Liam Gagliano (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Oyster Bay) and
Corey Toscano (Union Vale, N.Y./Our Lady Of Lourdes) led the team overall, picking up a first place finish in the finals with an 11-second win over Merchant Marine as the pair registered a time of 8:04.93.

Earlier in the day the pair took first place in their initial heat with a 7:59.67 to edge both Loyola University and Philadelphia University.
Maritime had two other teams qualify for the finals as the men's varsity four took sixth in their final run with a time of 7:43.70 after a qualifying time of 7:19.59 to open up the day.

The varsity four was comprised of Toscano, Gagliano, along with freshmen
John Woods (Worcester, Mass./St. John's) and
Zach Woolley (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) as senior
Rachel DeFroda (Wilmington, Del./Delaware Military Academy) served as coxswain.

The other team to qualify for the finals was the women's varsity four, which earned bronze as the quartet finished in the finals with a time of 9:03.18 after a second place-qualifying run of 8:46.41.

Alexandra Schnabel (Lindenhurst, N.Y./St. Anthony's), sophomores
TinaMarie Haskell (Chestnut Ridge, N.Y./Clarkstown North), and
Anneliese Selheim (Castle Rock, Colo./East Meadow (N.Y.)) along with freshman
Gabriella Franco (East Setauket, N.Y./St. Anthony's) teamed up with DeFroda as coxswain to earn the bronze.

The men's novice four of Woods, Woolley, sophomore
Kent Napoliello (Bay Head, N.J./Point Pleasant Beach) and freshman
Adam Durrua (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Beach) finished third in their initial heat with a time of 7:46.38 and finished two spots from qualifying for the finals.

Meanwhile the novice eight saw Woods, Woolley, Napoliello, Durrua join up with sophomore
Scott Smith (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Beach), and freshmen
James Louer Jr. (Clifton, N.J./Clifton),
Curtis Bates (Honesdale, Pa./Damascus Christian), and Michael Chang to pick up a 7:26.69 in the opening heat and also missed the cut for the finals by two positions.

With the conclusion of the Kerr Cup, the Privateers will travel to Connecticut this weekend to take part in the Sacred Heart Invitational hosted by Sacred Heart University. The one-day event will take place on Saturday, April 22.
