The Maritime College women's crew team dominated the St. Valentines day regatta on Saturday, Feb. 9, hosted by Manhattan College. The Privateers were led by first place finishes from team captain Kim Walsh and Sophomore Lisa Kirabo.
In the first race of the day, the Lightweight 2000m, the lone Privateer Lisa Kirabo lead the field as she finished with a time of 9:47.3.
Next up, Maritime had a strong performance in the Heavyweight 2000m. Kim Walsh led the Privateers with an 8:23.8 and first place finish. She was followed by freshman Abby Boylan and Michelle Eckert, taking 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Ashley Hillaian,
Kelly Guerrero (Bay Shore, N.Y./St. John the Baptist), and
Amy Torres (Uniondale, N.Y./Uniondale) added to the women's dominant performance.
The first regatta of the spring season saw multiple podium finishes for the men's team against stiff competition. In the first race of the day, Senior
Christopher Chilelli (Bordentown N.J./Bordentown Regional) finished 2nd with a time of 3:57.9 followed by Junior
Ben Ludwig (New City, N.Y./Clarsktown North) with a time of 4:01.5 taking 3rd place place in the 1000m coxswain.
In the Lightweight 2000m race, freshman Kevin Kunsh took third place in a close race, finishing with a personal best time of 7:40.8.
Freshman Erik Hanke lead the Privateers in the Men's Collegiate Heavyweight 2000m race with a 5th place finish breaking the 7 minute barrier with a time of 6:59.3. Hanke was followed by Sophomore
Liam Sammons (St. Johnsville, N.Y./Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsvile) and Freshmen Uri Shakked, and Logan Moonen taking the next three positions. Freshmen Mark Reeve and Kyle Feste rounded out Maritime's competitors.
