THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime dinghy sailing team got back to action this past weekend after a week off, and took part in both the Navy Spring Regatta in Maryland as well as the Old Guard Open in Connecticut.

At the Navy Spring Regatta the Privateers took 12th place of 20 teams aboard FJ boats, while at the Old Guard Open hosted by Yale, the Privateers finished in 18th place of 18 teams on Z420s.

In a return to fleet racing, the Privateers posted a combined score of 338 points at the Navy Spring Regatta with a score of 148 from Division A, and a score of 190 in Division B.

Junior
Zach Hill (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) teamed up with freshman
Macy Blakeley (Falls Church, Va./George C. Marshall) in Division A, as the pair combined for the low Privateer score on the weekend. After the first initial rotations saw the duo finish in the middle of the pack, Hill and Blakeley found their groove. In the fifth rotation with a Division A victory, before scoring another first place finish in the seventh race of the weekend for Division A.

The pairing posted three more top-ten finishes and capped off the weekend with a strong second place showing in the 14th race of the weekend before wrapping things up on Sunday with an 18th place finish.

Meanwhile in Division B, the Privateers had sophomore
John Lawless (Rochester, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) team up with classmate
Skye Miller (Congers, N.Y./Clarkstown North). The duo finished consistently in the middle of the back with the pairing finishing in the 10th place position twice, while also scoring an 11th and 12th place finish in the opening four rounds.

Lawless and Miller registered one more top-ten finish in the 10th rotation and rounded out the weekend with a total of 190 points to give the Privateers a two-division weekend score of 338.

Up north in Connecticut, the Privateer sent another team to the Old Guard open hosted by Yale and finished the weekend with a score of 448 with a point total of 215 in Division A, and a total of 233 in Division B.

It was a learning experience for the freshmen Privateers as rookies
Aidan Molesky (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) and
David Rackoff (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park) teamed up for Division A, while freshman
Matthew Daghir (Havre de Grace, Md./Aberdeen) matched up with sophomore
Kimberly Cabrera (Brooklyn, N.Y./Williamsburg Prep).

Molesky and Rackoff finished just two points shy of 17th place in Division A as the pair had a weekend-best finish of 9th place in their fourth of 13 rotations on the weekend.

Division B saw Daghir and Cabrera match up against some tough competition as the pair was able to finish out of the final position just once on the weekend as the duo combined for 233 points.

After the busy dual-competition weekend, the Privateers will return to take part in just one regatta this coming weekend and will not have to travel far to get there. The Greater New York Regatta hosted by Fordham and Columbia will take place on Saturday and Sunday in the Bronx.
