WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Maritime dinghy sailing team opened up the spring half of the team's 2016-17 season at the John Jackson Memorial Team Race hosted by Georgetown University. The Privateers finished with an overall record of 2-8 in the team race format, which was good enough for eighth place out of as many teams.

All racing was conducted on Sunday aboard the fleet of FJs and Z420s as poor weather conditions forced the cancelation of the Saturday session.

In the initial round robin rotation, the Privateers finished 1-6 against the other seven teams competing at the event, with Maritime's lone win coming against St. Mary's (Md.) with a 1-2-5 finish ahead of the Seahawks' 3-4-6 finish.

Maritime's three-team setup saw sophomore skipper
Kyle Comerford (Annapolis, Md/Annapolis) join with freshman crew
Macy Blakeley (Falls Church, Va./George C. Marshall); sophomore skipper
John Lawless (Rochester, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) with sophomore crew
Skye Miller (Congers, N.Y./Clarkstown North) and senior skipper
A.J. Libby (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) join up with freshman crew
Aidan Molesky (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck).

With its 1-6 record, Maritime was grouped in the consolation foursome with George Washington, St. Mary's (Md.) and the College of Charleston. The Privateers picked up another win as Maritime scored a 1-2-3 finish over Charleston, who took the 4-5-6 positions. Maritime fell to both George Washington and St. Mary's to finish the weekend with a 2-8 overall mark.

Earning the win at the event with a 9-1 overall record was host Georgetown. Coast Guard was second with a 7-3 mark, followed by Connecticut College at 6-4, Fordham rounded out the top four with a 4-6 record.

Maritime will look to regroup this weekend, when the Privateers will head to New London, Connecticut and take part in the Southern New England Team Race hosted by Connecticut College. Action is slated to begin in the morning on Saturday before racing continues into Sunday.
