KINGS PARK, N.Y. – Taking part in the final meet before the Skyline Conference Cross Country Championships, the Maritime cross country teams took to the course on Saturday afternoon at Sunken Meadow Park on Long Island for the St. Joseph's (LI) Invitational.
The men's team had a strong showing at the event with a third place finish amongst the 21 teams to score at the event. Maritime was the top NCAA Division III team to place, ahead of Mount St. Mary, who took fifth overall. The women's team finished 10th overall at the event and were the sixth NCAA Division III team to finish, behind five fellow members of the Skyline Conference.
As a team the Privateer men had a combined score of 111 points, while Fordham's men's team won the race with a 25-point showing. The Maritime women accumulated 265 points, with Fordham also winning the women's event with a team score of 44.
The men's team was paced by sophomore
Sean Hobson (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) on the afternoon as he took 12th place overall with a time of 28:35.2. Sophomore
Curtis Bates (Honesdale, Pa./Damascus Christian Academy) was second on the team with a time of 29:18.2 as he was the 22nd finisher in the men's race. Sophomore
Marco Rosado (Lajas, Puerto Rico/Academia San Agustin y Espiritu Santo) scored third for the Privateers with a 28th place finish as he came across the line with a time of 29:49.5.

Kyle O'Brien (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) was fourth for Maritime with a 35th place time of 30:13.3; while freshman
Kris Bieri (Westwood, N.J./Westwood Regional) was the final Privateer to score with a time of 30:36.4, which was good enough for 39th place at the event.

Austen Rohmann (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) was the first alternate with a time of 31:04.8, while junior
Christian Berglin (Hampton Bays, N.Y./Hampton Bays) clocked in at 31:10.8 as the second alternate.

Katia Aaron (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) led the women's team at the race with a 46th place finish as she recorded a time of 23:10.3, she was followed by sophomore
Bethany Champlin (Bronx, N.Y./Saint Vincent) in 53rd place with a time of 23:26.9, and 54th place
Emily Zink (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport), who cross the line at 23:38.0 for the first three scoring positions for the Privateers.
Junior
Jean Colgan (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) grabbed fourth for the Privateers with a time of 25:39.1, which was good enough for 86th position. Freshman
Jenna Butkins (/) took the fifth and final scoring position with a time of 26:03.0.
Maritime had one alternate with a time of 29:11.5 as junior
Riley Huang (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) took 127th place in the field of 167 racers.
Maritime will take next weekend off after a busy seven-straight weeks of racing and prepare for the Skyline Conference Championships, which take place on Sunday, October 29 at Purchase College. The women's race is slated to begin at 11 a.m., followed by the men's race at approximately 12 p.m.
