PATCHOGUE, NY – The Maritime College men's and women's cross country teams took part in the St. Joseph's LI Invitational at Sunken Meadow Park on Saturday. The Privateer men placed eighth overall out of 19 programs, while the women's squad was ninth in an 18-team field.
In the 8000-meter men's race,
Angus Queen (Mamaroneck, NY) was Maritime's top finisher. He took 38
th place with a time of 32:39.5.
Michael Abbamonte (Bohemia, NY) captured 43
rd-place with a 32:53.3 clocking, while
Eric Schmidt (Woodbury, MN) grabbed 53
rd place in 34:18.0.
Pietro Lorino (West Nyack, NY) (57
th, 34:43.9) and
Jack Queen (Mamaroneck, NY) (58
th, 34:46.3) crossed the line within seconds of each other to round out the Privateers' scoring quintet. As a team, Maritime tallied 249 points.
On the women's side, the Privateers posted a team score of 217 points.
Cindy Chen (Huntington Station, NY) finished the 5000-meter course in 21:52.1, which was good for 10
th place.
Erin Doyle had a 44
th-place time of 25:28.6, and
Eily Kochon (Ulster Park, NY) was 51
st in 25:49.6.
Clio Liff was just behind Kochon in 53
rd place (25:52.9), while
Emily Bryant (Hilliard, OH) ended up 59
th with a 26:13.1 clocking.
This was Maritime's final competition before the Skyline Conference Championships, which will be held at Purchase College on Sunday, Oct. 26. The women's race gets underway at 10 a.m., with the men's race to follow at 11 a.m.
