ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Maritime offshore sailing team took to the water for the final time this fall season as the Privateers took part in the Kennedy Cup Championship hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy.

Racing on a fleet of Navy 44 sloops, the Privateers finished in a tie for ninth place out of the 10 teams racing at the event.

Six races were held throughout the weekend, with Maritime tallying 50 points. The Privateers were tied with the Mass. Maritime Buccaneers with 50 points, however by virtue of a tiebreaker the Buccaneers held the advantage over the Privateers.

The Privateers opened the weekend with a fifth place finish, followed by back-to-back eighth place finishes. In their final race of the weekend, the team bounced back after a disqualification to tally another eighth place score.

Junior
Riley Kernan (Manasquan, N.J./Wall) served as the skipper for the team, while seniors
Christian Perez (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley),
Alex Haim (Youngstown, N.Y./Lewiston Porter) and
David Yonks (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai) were the seniors aboard. The team was also joined by juniors
Caitlin Cummings (Shelter Island, N.Y./Ross) and
Jack Ryder (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck), while sophomores
Peter Mosconi (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) and
Gregory Ferguson (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) rounded out the team.

The South Florida Bulls led the field with 16 points on the weekend, followed by host Navy with 20 points. The College of Charleston was a close third with 21 points, followed by California Maritime and Coast Guard rounding out the top five.

Michigan finished sixths with 37 points, followed by Army-West Point, and Merchant Marine finishing ahead of both the Privateers and Mass. Maritime.
