THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – Making her home debut at the Riesenberg Aquatic Center, freshman
Katherine Green (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) set a pair of program records as she helped the Maritime women's swimming and diving teams capture its first win of the season over the Lehman Lightning by the score of 129-62. In addition to the women's victory, the men also coasted to a victory over the Lightning by a 117-76 margin.
Green set her records in back-to-back events as she swam to a 25.82 as she became the first female swimmer to ever post a time below 26 seconds in program history during the 50 yard freestyle. In the very next women's event, Green broke the 200 yard individual medley record by three seconds as she registered a 2:24.02 for the team.

Gabrielle Thompson (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams), in addition to sophomores
Katia Aaron (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) and
Emily Zink (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) also scored a first place finish in the 200 yard medley relay to open up the night with a 2:09.09. Aaron followed that up with a first place finish in the 1,000 yard freestyle with a 13:00.36, while senior
Ashley O'Brien (Queens, N.Y./Mary Louis Academy) finished second with a 14:10.73.
The women's team from Lehman scored a win in the 200 yard freestyle, but junior
Grace Stanton (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot), sophomore
Erica Davis (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot), and junior
Abigail Granit (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township) were the next three to finish as the Privateers added to their lead.
Green notched both of her victories next for the Privateers, with senior
Danielle Leahy (Cocoa Beach, Fla./Cocoa Beach) finishing second in the 50 freestyle, and Aaron collecting a second place finish in the 200 individual medley. Following the first diving break, Zink won the 100 butterfly by over 13 seconds with a time of 1:10.27.
Leahy added another second place finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:02.89; freshman
Bethany Champlin (Bronx, N.Y./Saint Vincent) and sophomore
Megan Alicea (Copake, N.Y./Taconic Hills) took third and fourth, respectively. Senior
Treasa Murphy (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) swan to a first place finish in the 100 backstroke, followed by Thompson and Granit. Stanton (6:11.24) and O'Brien (6:57.96) finished atop the leaderboard in the 500 yard freestyle.
In the women's 200 yard freestyle relay, the Privateers swam as exhibitions with the score well decided at that point. The quartet of O'Brien, Stanton, Thompson and Leahy led the field with a time of 1:56.19 ahead of the second Privateer foursome, which was comprised of Alicea, Granit, Neely and Murphy.
The women's diving team was back in action for the second consecutive meet as freshman
Macy Blakeley (Falls Church, Va./George C. Marshall) tallied a 138.10 for first place, while junior
Alexandra Schnabel (Lindenhurst, N.Y./St. Anthony's) tallied a second place finish with a score of 108.60.
The men's team had just a similar outcome over the Lightning, winning the meet by over 40 points.
The Privateers opened the night with a 1:44.97 in the 200 yard medley relay as sophomore

Robert Lewis (Belchertown, Mass./Belchertown) led the way in the 1,000 freestyle, followed by junior
Luke Doherty (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville), and sophomore
Shane Hoey (Bell Harbor, N.Y./St. Francis Prep). Truong scored his second win of the night in the 200 freestyle, as he edged out teammate
Stephen Kelleher (Poughquag, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) by less than half a second. Junior
James Conway (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) and seniors
Sam Dratch (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) and
Charles Gallagher (Port Ewen, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) all notched points for the Privateers in the 50 freestyle.
In the 200 individual medley, Marino touched the wall first with a 2:12.69 as he looks to tackle the record he set a season ago during his rookie year. Freshman
Adam Durrua (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Beach) had a 1:01.24, while senior
Charles Schnebel (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) picked up a 1:01.96, and sophomore
Lillo Rubino (Islip Terrace, N.Y./Central Islip) added a 1:03.08 in the 100 yard butterfly event.

Spencer Blass (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard), junior
James Conway (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot), and sophomore
Jesse Pierce (Broadway, Va./Broadway) all picked up sub-minute times in the 100 yard freestyle, as Blass was just one second off of the lead. The Privateers swept the board in the 100 backstroke as with freshman
Edwin Moriarty (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran), junior
Andrew Katz (Greenlawn, N.Y./Glenn-Elwood) and Rubino winning by more than six seconds over the first Lehman swimmer.
In the 500 freestyle, Lewis led the way with a 5:36.79, followed by sophomore
Francis Horne (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) and junior
Nick Sherman (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington). Marino and freshman
Ian Folan (Bethel, Conn./Notre Dame) took the top two spots in the 100 breaststroke to close out the individual events.
Truong, Kelleher, Blass and Wu picked up a time of 1:37.02 for first place during the 200 yard freestyle relay, while Murray, Durrua, Dratch and Katz were just a quick split behind at 1:37.56.
The men's diving team put together a valiant effort as senior
Ryan Wood (Sparta, N.J./Blair Academy) led the way in the 1 meter diving with a score of 177.65. Senior
John Brown (Keystone Heights, Fla./Keystone Heights) was second with a 150.25, while sophomore
Kurt Schieferstein (Lattingtown, N.Y./Chaminade) added a score of 144.05. Seniors
Vincent Maltese (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's) and
Benjamin Cherkes (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) also recorded scores in the 1 meter diving event.
For Wood, his 177.65 was a personal best score, breaking his previous career best of 172.00 from last season's meet against Lehman.
In the high dive, Wood added a score of 147.40, while Brown added a score of 143.45 as the pair were the lone two divers from 3 meters.
Maritime will look to continue its quick start to the 2016-17 season, with its Skyline Conference opening meet on Monday evening. The team will travel to nearby Purchase, N.Y. for a date with the Purchase Panthers beginning at 6 p.m. This will be the first of two meets in Purchase, as the Panthers will be hosting the conference championship meet in late January.
