THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – On Thursday, the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference announced its 2016 postseason awards and all-conference selections. The Maritime football team had 12 individuals earn honors, including four individuals earning first team honors.

The 12 selections is the sixth most for the Privateers since joining the league, with the most selections coming back during the team's championship season of 2010 with 16 honorees.

Earning first team honors on offense were junior offensive lineman
Thomas Korwan (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh), and junior placekicker
Matthew Murphy (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford). First team defensive accolades went to senior defensive back
Brian Price (New York, N.Y./Wadleigh), and senior lineman
Corey Palladino (Merrick, N.Y./St. Anthony's).

Senior
Andrew Short (Covington, La./St. Paul's) was selected as a member of the second team offense at the tight end position, while senior
John Arny (Metuchen, N.J./Metuchen) was named to the second team defense for the punter position.

Six other individuals earned honorable mention selections including seniors
Krystian Cardinal-Charles (Brooklyn, N.Y./Boys and Girls), and
Eric Wallace (West Point, N.Y./James O'Neill); along with juniors
Joshua Burris (Covington, La./Covington),
Wesley Joseph (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood),
Connor McDaniel (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip), and
Matt Ward (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North).

After being selected as a member of the second team last season, Korwan earns first team honors for his junior season. He becomes Maritime's first offensive lineman selection to the first team since
Casey Boos '15 earned honors in 2014. Korwan was a staple on Maritime's offensive line and helped the team to the third highest rushing total of 1,613 yards in the ECFC, while being part of an offensive line that yielded just 1.70 sacks per game.

Murphy had an impressive season to begin his year as the primary placekicker during the 2016 campaign. He was the highest scoring player on Maritime and third highest scorer in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference with his 70 points, with all 70 coming on field goals and extra points. His longest kick of the season came in league play against Anna Maria at 46 yards. Through the team's first 10 games, he has kicked the ball off 49 times, for an average of 60.2 yards, with 13 touchbacks.

Like Korwan, Price also moves up a spot from a second team defensive back last year to first team accolades as a senior. Moving from cornerback to safety, Price has not missed a beat finishing second on the team with 63 tackles, which was the 17th highest total in the league. He led the league with five interceptions, and was also tied for the league lead with three blocked kicks while also adding 2.5 sacks this season for a loss in 18 yards.

Palladino served as an anchor on the defensive line, he played in all 10 games for Maritime to date and recorded 17 tackles from his interior line position. He picked up four tackles for a loss in yardage for a loss of 18 yards, with one sack for a six-yard loss. In the regular season finale vs. Gallaudet, he also forced one fumble. The defensive unit had a total of 1.80 sacks per game and 7.6 tackles for a loss per game during the regular season.

Short bounced back off of an injury-plagued 2015 season and earned second team honors in his final season with the team. He was second on the team with 33 catches, and had 373 total receiving yards while averaging 37.3 yards per game including a season-high 81 at home vs. Becker. The senior caught two touchdowns in 2016, with both coming in the team's overtime win over Maine Maritime to open the season.

Earning all-conference accolades for the second straight season was Arny, who once again proved to be one of the top punters in the league. Finishing up his fourth season as the team's punter, Arny averaged 40.61 yards per punt on 46 kicks this season. Against Mount Ida, he recorded the second longest punt in program history with his 70-yard kick, which factored into his 1,868 yards this season. Fourteen of his 46 punts were inside the opponents' 20-yard line, while he also forced 10 fair catches, and four touchbacks.

Cardinal-Charles was one of Maritime's two primary kickoff return specialists this season and averaged 28.38 yards per return on his 13 returns this season. He totaled 369 yards, including his season-best 53-yard return against Anna Maria in early October.

Wallace was the team's leader in tackles this season with 82 stops overall, with an even split of 41 solo and assisted tackles. He was third on the team with nine stops behind the line of scrimmage, and also added two sacks, two interceptions and forced a fumble this season.

In his first season with the team, Burris became a presence in the Privateer secondary which earned him a starting role later in the year. He finished the season with 11 tackles, but was tied for second on the team with six pass breakups and also had one interception that he returned for a 27-yard touchdown.

Joseph emerged as one of the team's premiere edge rushers and had 52 tackles on the year, with 17.5 tackles coming for a loss in yardage. He also led the team with seven sacks for a loss in 36 yards, as he became a regular in the team's starting front seven this season.

McDaniel was a key player on the Privateer offensive line after moving from center to right tackle in 2016. In his new role, he helped stop some of the top defensive players in the league to hold opponents to just 17 sacks this season. He helped Maritime to an offensive number of 336.5 yards of total offense per game.

Ward rounded out Maritime's honorable mention selections as he held the team lead in receptions with 39 and receiving yards with 485 for a 12.44 average per catch. Averaging 48.50 yards per game, Ward also led Maritime's receiving unit with four touchdowns on the season.

Earning individual superlatives this year were Husson running back John Smith, who earned offensive player of the year honors, while teammate Luke Washburn was named the team's top defensive player. Husson senior Nick Lewis was named offensive lineman of the year, while head coach Gabby Price was named Coach of the Year, and assistant Nat Clark was named Assistant Coach of the Year.

Norwich's Wesley Medeiros was named Special Teams Player of the Year for the second straight season, while Cadet freshman running back Patrick Brown earned league Rookie of the Year accolades.

Maritime finished the regular season with an overall record of 6-4, and a league mark of 4-3. The team will look ahead towards the ECAC Scotty Whitelaw Bowl Championship at 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 20. The game will be the final matchup of six games contested during the ECAC Division III Football Fest hosted at Franklin Field on the University of Pennsylvania campus.
