ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Maritime dinghy sailing team closed out the fall 2016 semester this past weekend with the Atlantic Coast Tournament hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy.

Aboard a fleet of FJ boats, the Privateers finished the weekend with a total score of 307 points. The teams point total placed the Privateers 12th in a field of 19 teams.

Maritime's A Division fared well as skipper duties were split by sophomores
Kyle Comerford (Annapolis, Md/Annapolis) and
John Lawless (Rochester, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit), with classmate
Skye Miller (Congers, N.Y./Clarkstown North) serving as crew. Within their division, the Privateers finished with 125 points, which was seventh best in Division A.

Comerford and Miller teamed up for the opening four rotations and collected a trio of top-10 finishes including a fifth place finish in their fourth race together. Lawless took over as skipper for a pair of raced and finished in 13th and 9th position in their two races.

After Comerford took over as skipper once again, he and Miller recorded their best stretch of racing on the weekend beginning with a win in the seventh race of Division A. The pair followed that up with a 4th, 2nd, and 5th place finish before tailing off in their final four races of the weekend to finish with 125 points overall.

In Division B, junior
Andreas Adam (Annapolis, Md./Severna Park) served as skipper throughout the majority of the weekend, with freshman
Aidan Molesky (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) taking over as skipper for just two races. Sophomore
Maura King (Bayport, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) served as crew throughout the entirety of the weekend.

Adam and King competed through the first six races in Division B and began the weekend in the top half of the field with a 10th place finish followed by a 6th place finish to open the action on Saturday. The pair fell to the back of the field for the next four rotations before Molesky took over.

Once the rookie took over as skipper, both he and King finished 16th before jumping ahead to an 8th place finish. Adam returned to skipper duties and picked up three more top-10 finishes through the final few races on Sunday afternoon.

Connecticut College won the event with 142 points, while the first entry from Brown took second place after a tiebreaker with Cornell. Vermont finished fourth and Old Dominion rounded out the top-five.
