LARCHMONT, N.Y. – The Maritime offshore sailing team made its last trip to the Larchmont Yacht Club this season, and competed in the Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta. The Privateers competed in two classes and finished in fifth and ninth in their respective groups.

In Class 2 which was the J/44 division, Maritime finished fifth out of six teams as the squad was comprised of seniors
Alex Haim (Youngstown, N.Y./Lewiston Porter),
David Yonks (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai), and
Christian Perez (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley); juniors
Riley Kernan (Manasquan, N.J./Wall), and
Caitlin Cummings (Shelter Island, N.Y./Ross); and sophomores
Jeffery Ellington (Ft. Myers, Florida/Fort Myers),
Gregory Ferguson (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches),
Peter Mosconi (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian). Maritime alum
Taylor Walker '13 was also back to lend a hand to the current group of Privateers.

On the J/44, Maritime finished in sixth place in their initial race of the weekend but rebounded to have a second place finish in their second race of the weekend. After a pair of fifth place finishes, Maritime moved up to fourth in its final rotation for a weekend total of 22 points.

Navy finished in first place in the class with a combined score of six points, while Coast Guard took second place with 10 points. Maine Maritime was in third with 16 points, while Mass. Maritime finished just ahead of the Privateers by one point with 21.

Meanwhile in Class 5 aboard J/105 boats, juniors
Trace Dittenhofer (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Township),
Matt Dougherty (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley), sophomores
Taylor O'Brien (Northport, N.Y./Northport) and
Richard Leach (Hudson, N.Y./Croton Harmon), and freshman
Charles Corso (/) finished ninth amongst 10 teams in the division. Joining the crew on the boat was Maritime alum
Evan Kinkel '15 at the event.

After three consecutive ninth place finishes, the group picked things up and finished in seventh place during their fourth rotation, and moving up to a weekend-best sixth place in their final race of the weekend. The group finished with 40 points, and was one point behind the combined team of Fairfield and Sacred Heart.

The University of South Florida finished in first place, followed by Mass. Maritime and Navy to round out the top three at the event.

Maritime will next travel south to the U.S. Naval Academy to take part in the McMillan Cup, the Privateers will be looking to improve upon its fifth place finish from the 2015 season at the event.
