GENEVA, N.Y. – This past weekend, the Maritime dinghy sailing team was back on the water at one event as the team took part in the David Lee Arnoff Trophy hosted by Hobart/William Smith on Seneca Lake.

Of the 13 teams at the competition, Maritime finished seventh with a team score of 184 points. Within their respective divisions, the Privateers had 79 points in Division A, with the remaining 105 coming in Division B. The entirety of the event was raced aboard 420 boats.

Sailing in Division A for the Privateers this week were sophomore skipper
John Lawless (Rochester, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) with fellow sophomore
Skye Miller (Congers, N.Y./Clarkstown North) serving as crew.

Throughout the weekend the pair finished their 13 rotations with several quality scores including a weekend-best third place finish in their 10th race. The duo also started the weekend with a pair of fourth place finishes and tallied a total of 11 top-eight finishes.

In Division B, sophomore
Juan Lejarraga (New York, N.Y./Montessori) served as the skipper through the two-day event while he had two others serve as crew. Freshman
Macy Blakeley (Falls Church, Va./George C. Marshall) was aboard for the first six races before classmate
Morgan Forde (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) took over for races 7-10, Blakeley was back as crew in the final three races of the weekend.

After a slow start, Lejarraga and Blakely posted the best score of the weekend for either division with a second place finish in their fifth race of the day on Saturday. They followed that up with another top-five finish in their sixth race. With Forde as crew, she along with Lejarraga recorded finishes of 7th, 9th, and 6th, before Blakeley returned and the team finished 6th, 4th and 11th to cap off the weekend.

Host Hobart/William Smith won the event by a wide margin as the team tallied 53 points, in second place was Merchant Marine with 96. Dartmouth took third place with 104, followed by Old Dominion with 139, Jacksonville with 147, and Boston University with 162 finishing ahead of the Privateers.

Maritime finished ahead of local rival Fordham with 191 points, with Michigan finishing with 223. Rochester took 10th place with 237 points, followed by Wisconsin with 247, Virginia with 282, and Washington (Md.) with 307.

The Privateers will leave upstate New York with one of its best finishes of the fall, and will look to use that momentum heading into this weekend's Luce Regatta, which will be taking place on the Maritime College campus. The Luce Regatta is the only event on the schedule for the Privateer dinghy sailing team this coming weekend.
