(Sept. 26, 2014) – The Maritime men's soccer team had its best offensive output of the season Friday night against non-conference opponent Vaughn College, defeating the visiting Warriors, 5-1, in front of a crowd of 140 fans at Reinhart Field. Â
        Junior
Patrick McCarty (East Rockaway, N.Y./East Rockaway) opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when he caught up to a lead pass from the left side by classmate
Sheick Wattara (Bronx, N.Y./Urban Assembly for Math & Science) and beat Warrior sophomore keeper, Ahmed Aly, low and to the right. The Privateers held on to the 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
Â
In the second half, Maritime wasted little time adding to the lead, as senior
Tim Swinehart (Clearwater, Fla./Central Catholic) did what he does best, assisted on a goal off of a throw-in in the 49th minute. This time it was junior
John Nothacker (Philadelphia, Pa./Homeschooled) positioned right near the goal line that headed the ball high over the keeper into the right side of the net for his first career goal in just his second game.
Â
Vaughn applied some pressure after the Privateers went up 2-0 and eventually cut the lead in half in the 65th minute when junior Karim Haragi shot the ball from way out and it sailed high over substitute keeper, senior
Patrick Kelleher (Floral Park, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy)'s outstretched arms into the back of the net. Maritime responded less than eight minutes later when sophomore
Michael Wood (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield) found himself wide open in front and scored his second goal of the season off a cross from deep on the right side by freshman
Harry Colucci (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Earl L. Vandenmeulen).
Â
The Privateers added two more goals for some insurance late, as junior
Hakan Karalti (Istanbul, Turkey/Catalca Anatolian) netted the first of his career in his first ever appearance for Maritime, it was assisted by junior
Robert Cunningham (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst), and sophomore
Kieran Donnelly (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) closed out the scoring in the 89th minute on a tally that was assisted by senior
Chris Haffner (West Hempstead, N.Y./Kellenberg).
Â
Making his first career start in goal, freshman
Corey Cartano (Raleigh, N.C./Sanderson) did not face a single shot on goal, shutting the Warriors for over 58 minutes before being replaced by Kelleher in the second half. Kelleher made two saves on the night.
Â
Maritime will now have over a week before its next game, as the Privateers will be back at Reinhart Field next Saturday, Oct. 4, for a Skyline Conference matchup against Mount St. Vincent beginning at 1 p.m.
