Men’s Soccer Game Day: Privateers Open 2013 Season At Home Against Berkeley Tonight

        THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Sept. 3, 2013) – The Maritime men's soccer team will kick off the 2013 season on Tuesday night at home against Berkeley College (N.Y.). The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. under the lights at Reinhart Field.
 
Inside The Series With Berkeley
        The Privateers have only played the Knights of Berkeley College once before and that was last season at Reinhart Field. Both squads played a tightly contested double-overtime game on Sept. 30, but came out with a 1-1 draw.  For Maritime, senior Chris Anderson (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) tallied the equalizing goal in the 65th minute. In goal, then-freshman Karl Weber (Northport, N.Y./Northport) (Northport, N.Y./Northport) made four saves on the night.

Gwyther And Kellett Join Privateer Coaching Staff
        First-year head coach Martin Clayes has announced the addition of Daniel Gwyther and Lee Kellett to the Maritime sidelines as assistant coaches for the Privateers.
 
        Gwyther joins Maritime currently as a player for the Long Island Rough Riders of the USL and he also coaches various youth teams on Long Island as well as the Rough Riders Junior Academy sides.  He also plays for the NY Greek Americans of the CSL and has helped lead the club to back-to-back National Final appearances in 2012 & 2013, as well as qualifying for the U.S Open Cup.
 
        He played both collegiately at the University of Buffalo, where he was twice named Team MVP and an All-MAC Conference player, and professionally with English sides Watford F.C and Barnet F.C. Prior to his return to the U.S. he played two years for Metropolitan P.F.C., helping the team to win the Ryman League Championship.
 
        A native of London, England, Gwyther graduated Buffalo with a B.A. in Economics and earned his Master's Degree from the University of Cambridge. He holds a FA Level II coaching license and will be completing his USSF B in January 2014. Gwyther is currently an Associate in the Financial Management practice at KPMG and resides in Bellmore, N.Y. with his wife Melissa.
 
        Kellett comes to the Privateers with over nine years of coaching experience. He has been in the United States since 2007, mainly in New Jersey and Connecticut, where he has worked with players of all levels from travel teams to high school and college players.
 
        Kellett has completed many coaching qualification including a UEFA B License and a English FA Coaching Goalkeepers Level 2 license. As well as coaching in the U.S. and England, Lee has also coached in Africa, where is co-founded a charity in Ghana called The Ghana Football Project and continues to work in Africa to help the local soccer players.
 
        He played soccer for his Myerscough College in Preston, England, and also for the Royal Engineers while in the British Army, playing right midfield or right defense. He currently resides in Brooklyn, N.Y. with his fiancée, Megan.
