The Maritime football team enters Saturday's contest with an even 1-1 record under eighth-year head coach
Clayton Kendrick-Holmes, with a 20-14 home win over Mass. Maritime on Sept. 7 and a 19-14 loss on the road to Kings Point last Saturday, Sept. 15. The Privateers have averaged 296.5 yards of offense per game and scored five touchdowns, while giving up an average of 349.0 yards, four TDs and two field goals.
The team's rushing leader is junior fullback
Gary Bigham (Jacksonville, Fla./The Bolles (Fla.)) (Jacksonville, Fla./The Bolles) with 84 yards (3.5 yards per carry) and all three of Maritime's touchdowns on the ground. His classmate, quarterback
Tyler Trodden (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) is close behind with 83 rushing yards (3.6 yards per carry). The punting duties have landed on Alvora this season, who has had some great punts the first two weeks. He has amassed 369 yards on eight punts for an average of 46.1 yards per punt. His longest of the year came last week on a 76-yard punt that went back for a touchback. A Closer Look At The National Rankings
As a team, the Privateers rank in the Top 20 among all NCAA Division III teams in seven categories, including being ranked first nationally in tackles for losses allowed (1.50 per game), sacks allowed (0.0 per game) and third down conversion defense (14.81-percent). Maritime is also ranked third in fewest penalties (2.50 per game), eighth in fewest yards penalized per game (27.00 per game), 10th in net punting (40.25 net average yards per game) and 11th in passing defense (114.00 yards allowed per game).
Individually,
Keith Barnes (Westbury, N.Y./Westbury) ranks as the second-leading tackler in the country with 16.0 tackles per game and 11.0 solo tackles per game.
Duke Alvora (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) is the third-best punter in the nation with his 46.1 yards per punt.
Pat Lasher (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) (tied for 16th) and Alvora (tied for 20th) also rank high nationally in tackles per game.
On the other side, Castleton St. ranks in the Top 20 in all of D-III in three categories, including being ranked first in red zone offense, scoring all eight times that the team reached the red zone. The Spartans also rank 13th in fumbles recovered (five) and 17th in passing offense (337.00 yards per game).
Individually, Castleton St. senior quarterback Shane Brozowski ranks fifth in the nation in passing with 29.33 completions per game, seventh in passing yards with 994, 13th in yards per game with 331.33 ypg and 18th in points responsible for with 20.0 per game. Junior wideout Brandon Boyle ranks fifth in the country in receptions per game (9.0), 13th in total receiving yards (325) and 20th in receiving yards per game (108.50). Freshman DB Michael Perrone ranks 12th in the country with .67 fumbles recovered per game.

Saturday's game will be the fourth between the Privateers and the Spartans, with Maritime controlling the series, 3-0. The two teams have met each year since the formation of the ECFC in the 2009 season.

Scouting The Castleton St. Spartans
The Spartans enter Saturday's game with a record of 1-2 under head coach Mark Klatt. They earned a 35-7 home victory over Plymouth State in their first week of action, but dropped their next two games to Endicott, 66-14, on the road and RPI, 56-35, at home last Saturday. Castleton St. has averaged 366.0 yards of total offense per game, with an average of 337.0 passing yards per game, and have scored 12 touchdowns on the season, while the defense has allowed an average of 477.3 yards per game and 18 touchdowns and one field goal.
Quarterback Shane Brozowski leads the offense with 994 passing yards and is 88-for-135 on completions with 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Brandon Boyle has been his primary target, hauling in 27 catches for 325 yards and four TDs, while sophomore Kevin Alberque has 15 catches for 274 yards and three scores. On the ground, senior Tyler Carpenter leads the team with 136 rushing yards and has found the end zone twice.
On defense, sophomore Todd Carr has a team-high 34 total tackles (seven solo and 27 assisted) with one sack for a loss of eight yards. Carr has also forced and recovered one fumble, defended one pass and broke up one pass. Junior Mick Wong ranks second on the team with 27 tackles (12 solo and 15 assisted), including four for combined losses of 10 yards.
Senior Dave Fox has handled the kicking duties, amassing 663 yards on 14 kicks (47.4 yards per kick). He is also a perfect 12-for-12 on PATs. Juniors Kris Jolin and Andrew Pursell have split the punting duties, as they have combined for 370 yards on 14 punts (26.4 yards per punt). Senior Brandon Bergeron has taken back three punts for 33 yards (11.0 yards per return) while Kevin Alberque leads the kickoff returners with 20.0 yards per return.
