THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Sept. 16, 2012) – Senior Chris Anderson (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) buried a shot from 5 yards out in the first overtime period to lift the Maritime men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over visiting Vassar College Sunday afternoon at Reinhart Field. The win improves the Privateers to 4-3 on the season, while the Brewers fall to 5-3.

Anderson scored just under two minutes into the first period of extra time off a corner kick by classmate Ryan Nugent (Carmel, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) (Carmel, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic). The ball found the foot of sophomore David Hraska Jr. (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) down low on the right side, who shoveled it on to Anderson, positioned near the right post. The Privateer tri-captain then ripped the shot into the lower left side to seal the victory.

Maritime nearly won the game in regulation, but a late goal by Vassar with 30 seconds to play by freshman Juliano Pereira on a header off an indirect kick by sophomore Justin Mitchell tied the score at 2-2. Nugent was the player who put Maritime ahead, 2-1, with over 10 minutes to play in the second half when he scored off an errant clear by Brewer senior keeper Gary Clauss that hit off Nugent's chest and then he tapped it into the open net behind the keeper.

The Privateers' first goal came on a lob by freshman Taylor McFadzen (Northport, N.Y./Northport) (Northport, N.Y./Northport) over the keeper's head from 35 yards out. That goal was assisted by sophomore Logan Becker (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) and tied the score up at 1-1 in the 63rd minute. Vassar's first goal was by junior Rob Manukyan in the 7th minute off a feed down low by Tom Weichert.

In goal, senior Michael Vanadia (Commack, N.Y./Commack)  (Commack, N.Y./Commack) earned the victory with two saves, while Clauss made six saves in the losing effort.

Maritime is back in action on Saturday, when the squad travels to Patchogue, N.Y., to open Skyline Conference action against St. Joseph's of Long Island. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Golden Eagles' Outdoor Athletic Complex on campus.
